There has never been a higher demand for self defense handguns than there is today. The greatest demand is for the smallest, lightest gun available, but this has drawbacks. Generally these guns are difficult to shoot well, lack stopping power and recoil can be a problem. If you can’t hit or stop what you are shooting at, what good is the handgun? We can understand all of these concerns as we face them every day as well. We wanted to give our customers the smallest, lightest gun that we could without sacrificing accuracy, dependability and stopping power.

Presenting the ECO, a true single stack officer size 1911 weighing in at only 25 oz. For years the officer 1911 has been criticized for reliability. We have taken care of that by using some of the latest technology as well as our background in doing what others say can’t be done. This gun has all the latest and greatest we have to offer.

The ECO wears tritium night sights with our tactical ledge sight on the rear of our lightweight 3.5” slide. The barrel is a flush-cut ramped bull barrel with target crown rather than the traditional barrel and barrel bushing. This makes the gun slightly more compact and easier to disassemble. The recoil system is quite unique for this style of 1911 as we use a solid, one piece guide rod and a flat recoil spring that is rated for 15,000 rounds in .45 ACP. That is 15,000 rounds! Not 500 rounds like most 1911 dual recoil systems are rated for. This is unheard of in a production 1911! This recoil system also gives the benefit of a smooth slide for easier operation and less felt recoil.

Trigger pull, like all of our 1911s, is short and crisp at around 4 lbs. This helps achieve the accuracy you’ve come to expect from a Dan Wesson.  The frame is anodized aluminum and features an undercut trigger guard and 25 LPI checkering. The mainspring housing is also aluminum with 25 LPI checkering and a rounded bottom corner for concealability and shooting comfort. These features coupled with the Ed Brown high ride grip safety and our new slim line DW carry G10 grips really help you hold onto the gun for faster follow-up shots and recoil control. Just like our Guardian, the ECO slide and small parts are treated with our Duty finish and available in both 9mm and .45 ACP. Stopping power is not a concern.

If you’re looking for a compact, lightweight and reliable 1911 that beats the competition, look no further than our ECO. We are confident you won’t be disappointed.

Dan Wesson is obviously a staple in building and designing 1911’s. In today’s market compact firearms are becoming much more common but fall short of particle use. Accuracy and feel are important. The ECO exceeds all expectations. The 9mm and .45 ACP shoot and handle like a full frame firearm all in a compact package. I would definitely recommend either for ccw.

This ECO is a beautiful little gun. Its just the wright size for a carry gun. Small enough to conceal, but packs a big punch. Very accurate, with the quality you can only find in a Dan Wesson 1911. My rating would be 5 Stars!!

This is a nice lightweight officer size 1911. I have had no malfunctions of any kind with all kinds and weight of 45 auto ammo. Broken in per DW manual. It seemed accurate enough for self defense. But nothing exceptional, then I realized the rear sight was loose and moving around. No big deal, but check it when new Make certain to follow manual on cleaning products. The wrong ones WILL make a mess of the finish. Mine accidentally got some bad stuff spilled near it only, but it was enough to Marr the slide in a small area. While I'm not happy about it, it's a carry pistol only for me, so in the long run it doesn't matter much. It's a good value if you need a LW, OACP. They seem to run very well

Picked up at ffl in less than a week. Gun is awesome. This is my 1st and definitely not last dan wesson. So far just 40 rounds through it and it's fantastic. Handles recoil very well considering the size and weight of the gun. Shoots a lot loke a full size 1911. Highly recommend and Buds has the best price I could find on this one.

Bought the ECO in 45 ACP a few months ago. This is a very well built, tight firearm. I have fired about 500 rounds through it, with various types of ammo, and not a single malfunction of any kind. The sights are nice and wide so it is easy to pick up the front sight in the rear sight window. Gun is very accurate, 1 hole groups at 7 yards from a bench rest where POI = POA (top of front sight is impact point). One thing to be advised is that gun comes with thin grips and a medium trigger. It feels a little strange compared to a standard 1911 with long trigger and full size grips, however when you draw and press the trigger, the differences are not noticeable. I did put thicker grips on the gun but the felt difference is still noticeable when handling and dry firing. Bud's has the best price I have found and I am very pleased with their service. This is about the 4th firearm I have purchased through them in the last 3-4 years and each transaction is professional and speedy.

Got the gun delivered to my local FFL. Which came in quick and hassle free (Thanks Buds!) as I was leary due to this being my first online purchase. The people at Buds walked me through the process and it was easy. Now on to the gun. I opened the box and racked the slide. It was in fact tight and kinda had a few spots where it hung up. I was very nervous at this point. My Specialist was like glass right from unpacking, another Dan Wesson 1911 hence prompting my purchase of this gun. I read through the manual and it stated that you needed to run 300 to 400 rounds through it to shot it in. With intervals of proper cleaning and using specific oil. I opted for Wilson Combat Ultimate oil for all, except the slide rails with I used Wilson Combat universal (touch thicker and sticky). First range trip (100 or so rounds) this thing have several failure to battery issues. It was one every mag or two. Very frustrating! I emailed Dan Wesson that night. They were confident if I stuck with the break in it would be fine. I at this point was not sold on it. Second range trip another 100 or so rounds and the failures were less frequent, so it was getting better but far from earning my trust. Third trip was the charm 100 or so rounds later and more cleanings it performs like a champ. Cycles like it's on bearings and shooting the x rings out with the tightest groups I have ever been able to produce! It gobbles up all kinds of ammo and has not had any issues at all now. I trust this firearm completely now and it is my sidearm of choice! You get out what you put in, follow the directions and you will end up with a very nice firearm.
