I have always wanted one of these! Thanks to Buds I have one. Shipping was fast and the pistol was in perfect shape. I am going to get a 22 rim fire barrel and start my two grandsons into the shooting sport.

The gun arrived in good condition. The bluing was excellent and the stocks smooth. The sights are not the best for my eyes. The rear notch is narrow and the front thin and black. For me it was difficult to get a good sight picture on a black target. Even with these sights the groups were very close and I am anxious to see how it performs with my Weaver Classic Scope and Talley one piece rings.

While I really like T/C Contenders generally, and have owned three in my life (G1 pistol, G2 T/C rifle/pistol), these new S&W manufactured ones are a but iffy. Mine came with a cracked grip, which S&W replaced no change, no trouble. The action does not open as smoothly or with as little effort as my New Hampshire made G2 or my original contender. The locking teeth are split (not one piece), and the extractor is sloppy in its raceway. It works, but this is just not up to the standards of the New Hampshire made Contenders in my observation. The trigger is too heavy, but not creepy, for a target pistol, too. The rear sight notch is far too wide. You have to hold this pistol all the way out like you do with a normal pistol in the isosceles position; these pistols are far too heavy to hold only from the grip in my opinion. I was used to holding Contenders by the forend and grip in a modified weaver stance which brings the eye much closer to the rear sight and helps balance the weight. These new sights are not good for that, though they are well made sights. The barrel is very nice, and accuracy is outstanding as can be expected. Like most Contender owners I will be purchasing additional barrels, but 357 magnum is a different cartridge in these pistols compared to a revolver with a 3-6 inch barrel. I clock 158 grain XTP-FPs over 1650 FPS from this pistol using Win 296. These bring down whitetails with authority and are far more pleasant to shoot than 44 Mag. Loading up cast bullets at 38 Special velocities feels like a cat-sneeze out of these pistols and it can be inexpensive plinking-n-paper shooting fun.
