On the first visit to the range the Ultra CS 9mm went through a 50 round box of 9mm ammo without a hitch. Consistent empty mag lockup and dead on accuracy at 10 yards with almost negligible recoil. If a 1911A1 platform is your thing this gun is for you.

So at first, I was a little bit reluctant about purchasing this firearm, but I did proceed to buy it and without a doubt, I am overly impressed by this Rock Island tac ultra.. I will admit it is a little on the heavier side, but there is barely no recoil at all.. The Accuracy on this gun is A as I consistently hit the target smack dead in the middle… with the VZ grips, fiber optic sights and of course being a beautiful 1911 this is a must buy… I did in fact add a Wilson combat magazine for better feeding.. I’m 100% happy with my purchase and we do it all over again if I had to… you can’t go wrong with this 1911.. I feel like it can hang with the big boys in its class.. you won’t be disappointed.. I’m even considering this being a EDC..

A fantastic shooting compact 9mm. Featuring classic 1911 styling, with modern touches such as a fiber optic front sight and a rail integrated into the front dust cover. This is without a doubt, one of the better looking handguns I own. With an all-metal frame, this gun is certainly heavier than many guns of a similar size. While some might consider this a drawback, I find it comforting. The weight helps reduce felt recoil substantially. The trigger is smooth and crisp, with an extremely short and predictable reset.
This gun came with copious amounts of oil in and on the gun. The first thing I did was field strip the gun and give everything a good clean.
My first trip to the range was 150 rounds of fun, with no failures of any kinds. I shot a mixture of brass and steel case ammo with no functional differences.
After 250 rounds total. I completely disassembled the gun and cleaned absolutely everything. I was a little surprised at just how much oil I missed inside the gun, with the area under the grip panels being properly wet. But, all things aside, I'd rather a parkerized gun ship with way more oil than is necessary than less.

On a strictly "Buds" review, great as always. As far as the product itself, I have mixed feelings. I purchased a RIA Tac Ultra, which had issues right out of the box. Needs to be sent back to the factory. Things happen, so overall, I'm still pleased

Overall a nice gun. It's a little bigger / beefier than I expected. I couldn't find one locally to check out before I ordered, but ordered anyway. I gave it 4 stars due to an issue I had with the magazine follower jumping the slide stop and not locking the slide back on empty, which also made it difficult to get the magazine out. I figured it was the magazine, so I ordered a Wilson Combat mag to compare. The Wilson would lock the slide back on empty every time. Holding both the mags side by side looking down into them from the top, you could clearly see there was more room between the wall of the magazine and the follower in the RIA mag. I called RIA and explained the issue and they wanted me to send the gun back to them, when all I needed was a new magazine. I told them I would not be sending the gun back for an obvious magazine issue and they closed my ticket. (Rightfully so). I took a flat blade screwdriver and spread the follower apart a bit, tested, spread some more, and tested again. It now functions perfectly. I've only got about 200 rounds through it, but never once has it failed to feed or eject. I've asked RIA if they plan to make a .22 TCM barrel for it, but they don't have any plans to. I wish I would have bought the .22 TCM, as it comes with a 9mm barrel. The TAC Ultra .22 TCM is slightly shorter, so the barrels are not interchangeable between pistols.

Buds was quick to ship my gun but unfortunately, after picking it up from my FFL on that Monday. I decided to take it out and had planned to put at least a 100 rounds through it to test how it works. I added 6 rounds into the 1 mag that came with the 1911, proceed to load the gun. I noticed it was very very tight as it was 2/3 ways pass the halfway but was able to lock it in. I racked the slide forward and which was easy, When I pull the trigger the gun went off but it would not cycle. I had to manually pull the slide back, pry the spent brass to eject hoping that it was just a one-off. Not this case, I had to repeat the last 5 times to get all the bullets out. The reason, the mag was so jammed in the gun and I had no leverage and with a load gun, I didn't want to take a chance. Once I did finally empty the gun, I even tried using a flat head screw driver to pry the mag from below. It wouldn't even budge. A friend of mine who also bought a RI Ultra but with a larger frame suggest I called Rock Island. I called them that first thing Monday morning. No answer!!! I called them on Tuesday, no answer. On Wednesday during lunch, Sarah from customer finally picked up. She said she would have someone make a call tag so I can send the original mag back to them. That evening, I got another email from her, stating that they wanted me to send them pics of the mag and the serial #. Wednesday night, I took multiple pics of not only the mag but also my gun. This morning I got another email from Sarah stating that her Supervisor wants me to send the gun back because there I've bought a lot of other hand guns including 1911's. This is the first time that I have encounter a gun that was this defective. Rock Island said it would be 4-6 weeks once they actually received my gun. They will decided if they will repair the issue or give me a new one. This is the first time I feel uncomfortable after purchasing a new gun. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and hope they take care of me... I also bought Buds insurance but I have not reach out to them. I have gone back and read some of the reviews post from previous buyers and wonder if I had made a mistake. I have purchase a few items through Buds and it has been positive. Only 1 time when the price quoted was incorrect but a manager there took care of me. I'll wait a few days and decide if I would reach out to them or not. As for the product itself, I like the feel of the RI Ultra FS Compact 1911. I just didn't like it not working the way it was suppose too from the brand new out of the box.

First let me say Bud's was great. This was my first purchase from them. However the pistol has been nothing but problems! First the magazine the gun came with would not cycle. Bud's refered me to the manufactor. They were nice sent me a lable to return and sent me a replacement. The second magazine arrived. Same issue! Sent back to get the third magazine. Took it to the range. To my surprise it worked. Next problem after I was able to now shoot the gun before I finished the second magazine the front sight fell out!!!! I am done! Gonna fix the sight and sell or trade this firearm!
