The Model 1873 is loved by Cowboy Action Shooters because it fires the
same ammo as their revolvers. It features a beautiful walnut stock with a
satin oil finish that's velvet smooth to the touch. It has a quality,
level of polish and finishes that are superior. The steel loading gate
provides for smoother loading. The rear tang is drilled and tapped for
an optional tang-mounted rear sight for a more precise sight picture.

Beautiful rifle, ultra smooth action. It fits me perfectly and feels just right when I shoulder it; the 24" barrel swings great and stays where I need it to.

It's great. But when you use 38 spl. make sure you use round nose over flat nose. It will jam the lever otherwise. Finish is nice but could be better though.

What can I say? This is the most beautiful rifle I currently have and an excellent shooter. The fit and finish is truly impeccable. I am mostly using fairly stiff rounds of IMR 4227 and Accurate #9 and avoiding H-110/W296, for the time being, just as a precaution. The smoothness of the action is, of course, legendary. I mounted a Marble's tang peep sight to assist my aging eyes and can consistently get a 2" group at 50 yards and improving with every range visit. If you enjoy a well manufactured rifle with a fantastic history you need to get this Winchester 1873. Buds was great, as usual. I have purchased about a dozen guns through Buds and have never been disappointed.

Found this on sale at Bud's and had to pull the trigger. I've been looking for a '73 Winchester in .357 Magnum for a while and liked the looks of this one. Took advantage of the 90 day layaway and made my payments. After the last payment was sent and cleared, rifle was shipped to my local FFL and I was notified to pick it up. What a beauty! The guys at the shop were very impressed with the color case-hardened finish on the receiver and the overall fit and finish of the rifle. I'm extremely pleased. I'll post another review after I've gotten to the range for a "smoke test".
