The pros: -Fairly smooth action (a quick action job makes it great.) -It’s pretty accurate. -Nice to look at. The cons: -HORRIBLY soft screws. Be prepared to shell out $70 for a good set of replacement screws. -The machine work is mediocre at best. Plenty of material to practice your finishing/polishing. -The assemblers just don’t care. Both of my side plates were fit into place with a hammer and screws were felt like they had thread locker on them. Paired with the soft steel, half of the screws stripped out on the first disassembly, even with proper gunsmithing screwdrivers. I would’ve given this rifle 4 stars, if not for the price. I would have expected much better quality for $1,300.

Rifle looks great, good fit and finish for sure.. shoots well, very accurate at 80 yards shooting 8-10' plates. Getting good velocity/energy with 357 (around 1,250ft lbs of energy with hotter loads) Can easily recommend this gun..everybody loves it when I bring it out. Soft recoil, even with hotter loads. It is slightly on the heavy side, 8lbs for sure.. but after shooting it for a few days i dont think about the weight at all, you get used to it fast. The weight is on par with like an AK47 or longer barreled AR15. Since its a 24inch barrel the weight can seem exaggerated but like i said you will forget about it if you shoot as often as i do. I prefer the longer barrels, i think they look better.. also like the longer sight picture for range shooting. Another pro of the longer barrel is its not loud at all for the shooter or people nearby..I can easily shoot this without ear protection, i have tried a few shots and it does not bother me.. I still wear protection but just thought id mention. Its well made and does not feel cheap at all. Get compliments all the time. If the rifle holds up over time, which im sure it will...10/10.

After much research, comparing, and thought, I purchased the Cimarron 1873. The rifle is simply stunning. Fit and finish far exceeded my expectations. The rifle is a work of art. Weight to balance ratio is excellent. The action is smooth and function is flawless. Accuracy is top notch. Shooting this rifle is just about the most fun one can have. Quality workmanship is quite obvious upon first glance. This rifle will last for several generations. The Cimarron 1873 is one sweet rifle.

I purchased this rifle several years ago. It is beautiful and accurate. I can hit targets out to 200 yds with the open sights. I have two other Cimarron firearms which also perform wonderfully. I am a plinker/collector when it comes to rifles. I feel like I am a 19th Century guy stuck in the 21st Century. I hope to purchase more rifles in the future.
