Savage Axis .308 Win Bolt Action Rifle - 22" Barrel, 4+1 Rounds, Synthetic

Great hunting rifle and cost effective.

So far, made it through one hunting season. Had a little bit of a problem finding mounts for the rifle, but other than that, knocked down one buck 2015 season. The heavy barrel reduces recoil and increased accuracy. I'm a mediocre shot, can put them in a quarter at 100yards, so the gun has been excellent. The only negative, there was a little water from rain on the barrel for couple of hours, and it had a little rust thru the bluing. A little cleaning and wipe down took care of it. I bough htis rifle from buds after my local gun shop could not match the price, rifle arrive on schedule and in awesome condition, buds was awesome. mounted a Nikon 3 x9 bdc on weaver bases, bore sighted at a palm tree on a1a around 140 yards and went to the range .the rifle with 147 grain perfecta ball was not overly impressive. I hand loaded 168 g bt hp match with 41.5 grains imr 4064 and have .5 inch group at 100 yards .very happy with the rifle and the way it performs, I did add 6 ounces of adhesive wheel weights to the inside of the recoil pad to balance the gun very happy with buds and with the savage rifle,

This gun is accurate out of box, it is unusual, because it has a heavy barrel with a low price. I received the gun last week, mounted a 4-12x40 Nikon scope and went to the range. Three shots group at 100 yards are as follows: ADI outback 168 match (0.70" MOA), Federal 168 Gold match 168 (0.90" MOA), Remington 168 match (1.0" MOA), hand load (Nosler 168 match bullet, Varget 41.5 gr, LC case, COL 2.800", CCI200 primer, 0.85" MOA), Lake city 149 gr FMJ (1.8" MOA). This gun is accurate and the cost is low, but it is not perfect. There is no accuttrigger, the stock is light and cheap, and the recoil is heavy. I may replace the trigger (more accurate) and a heavier stock (to balance the barrel). BudsGunShop has the best price in town, the service is good. Thanks.
