  Hi Jose, being a pump action, the will cycle just about any round you can put through it. For range ammo, any 7.5 or 8 shot should work fine.

  Wayne, yes sir, this Shockwave with the 18.5" barrel is considered a shotgun and is MA compliant.
  (The shorter versions are not legal in MA)

• Q: Why is this shotgun, and any other mossberg shotgun considered illegal in California? The law states you're able to possess a shotgun with a barrel length greater than 18", which this one and all of the others I'm trying to buy are, yet they aren't on the California roster. What makes this weapon non CA compliant?

  Aubrey, this Mossberg shockwave is definitely legal in California. People have been having Similar issues where buds website says California compliant models aren't legal in California when they are. Hopefully buds will update their website soon. Until then unfortunately to purchase this you will have to contact buds customer service at 859-368-0371 Monday thru Friday 9am to 9pm or use the blue chat button at the bottom right corner of your screen. Sorry you're having trouble but hope this helps.

  Kameron, yes it is. It is classified as an 'other', not a shotgun,(so it can't be a SBS) not a pistol. No tax stamp required. Purchase the same as you would any other long gun. Have a great day!

• Q: I know the 14" version of shockwave is legal in new jersey... but does anyone know if the 18" version of shockwave is legal in NJ? I like the style but prefer the longer barrel. Anyone know? Thanks!

  with the 18.5 inch barrel it is a pump Shotgun and is legal in CA "Prohibited: ✘ Shotguns with revolving cylinders (e.g. Franchi SPAS 12, USAS-12, Striker-12, or Streetsweeper).
  ✘ Semi-automatic shotgun that has both a folding/telescoping stock ​and ​a pistol grip, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.
  ✘ Semi-automatic shotgun that has the ability to accept any detachable magazine. ✘ Shotguns with tubular magazines in which the ​combined​ ammunition capacity ​exceeds 10 rounds AND can be fired by the shooter without either manipulating the magazine selector switch (such as the Standard Manufacturing DP-12), OR that can be fired using a selector switch that allows the shooter to alternatingly use ammunition from more than one tubular magazine without having to manually switch the magazine feeding process (such as the UTAS UTS-15), ​are prohibited​.
  
  Permitted: ✔ Shotguns with multiple tubular magazines, each having a 10-round or fewer capacity, and that must be manually switched from one tube to the other tube to use each group of ammunition are permitted.
