Is there any real difference between the Competition an d Hunter models? Are the grips the same?

Brayden - One can buy replacement barrels, but the cost is going to be $300+. There are various services online that offer the threading services. Threading this barrel might well involve relocating your front sight back just a bit, or it might not. I would suggest you consult a local gunsmith or machine shop and check their prices first, as the shipping costs will add to the cost of sending it to an online service. The last barrel I had threaded cost me $80, locally, so that's a substantial savings over buying a new barrel.

For numerous reasons I have narrowed my new purchase to a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite (which is the model I'd prefer) or a Mark IV Hunter (or Target). The lite seems "more fun" watching YouTube videos however nowhere can I find information on how much more accurate the target or Hunter is because of the barrel lengths. My interests are fun plinking yet I want something of high accuracy. Thoughts ?

I have the competition Mark IV, and have shot the Hunter. For all intents and purposes, both guns shoot identically. The sight radius is great on the hunter because of the length of the barrel, and the sights are good, even through the sights on the target/competition are different, the aiming is essentially the same. There is one thing to be aware of on the Mark IV, the trigger is very heavy out of the box, and that impacts accuracy more than anything else. It feels like it is about 5lbs, where my other target 22s, like Smith 41, Smith Victory, Beretta Neo, all have 2-3lb pulls, and shoot better for me than my Competition IV. So plan to have some trigger work done on the Mark IV to get it where it needs to be. The accuracy of the pistol is excellent otherwise, and I figure I could get dime sized groups at 10 yards with the sights, like my other .22s,, but the trigger often pushes my groups into 2", especially if I am fatigued. If the serial number begins with 500 or higher and the safety is marked with a white dot "S" it should be either the newer model (500) Series or the updated trigger version (White dot "S") This is what Ruger says anyway. I am waiting for the 500 series Competition version to buy.

It is apparent that sturm Ruger never really got along with CA. All of these types of Ruger .22's dropped off the doj roster a few years back. CA was requiring the any pistol that was up for a renewal, to remain on the roster had to include microstamping. Ruger declined to incur the additional hefty costs of resubmitting those pistols for Testing and adhering to the microstamping. So as a result, the pistols were dropped from the list. I recall actually hearing a couple years ago the Ruger had no intentions of making any CA compliant pistols, kind of fed up with their regulations. But since, they have abided slightly, as some of their newer pistols are on there. However, this pistol has not been added back.

Love the gun. Accurate up to 100 yards with standard sights. If I had one negative, the gun is on the heavy side. But it’s not a problem.Very good price at Buds.

This Ruger Mark IV Hunter is such an awesome looking and shooting pistol for the price that I got it for at Budsgunshop. I installed a red dot sight, zeroed it and now if even performs much better. It is always a pleasure doing business with Budsgunshop and I have never had any problems from online purchase, to price match requests, and reliable delivery!

This was out of stock for the better part of a year everywhere. I put it on my list and was notified when it came in. It was a better price than used ones were going for on Gunbroker! Price was great shipping was fast and the gun is perfect. As far as performance, the gun shoots way above my skill level and seems to really like cci ammo.

Bought this several months ago and have just been putting it through it paces. I'd say it took a little while to break in properly but after about 100 rds it fed pretty reliably. It is a gorgeous gun and the ease of the breakdown is awesome. Accuracy is great. It just has a lot of cool factor going for it.

Received the gun Quick & fast. I have no complaints of order and shipping. Only complaint I do have when I got the Hunter MK IV the pistol had issues. The rear site was not centered and could not be moved to the center position so you could be on target. 10' to 13' from target , gun was still 3-5 inch off center. I question and told Buds but had to send gun back to factory myself. Honestly felt in this case I would had thought Buds would have assist me with the problems I was having. I did send Hunter MK IV back to factory and Ruger made the Gun 100% . Now the Hunter shoots as a Hunter should. The Gun very good gun. I cannot say the same for Buds for I had no way of knowing Gun has issues when I picked it up FFL Dealer. Buyers Beware. Product is 5 Stars
