This is a great handgun in my humble opinion. I like the magazine capacity which provide good fire power. And of course, I am a 1911 fan. I think Remington makes a very fine gun and own several of them. This gun feels good in the hand even with the slightly wider grip but shoots great with modest recoil due to the extra weight. Very happy with this gun.

I was really looking forward to using this pistol, but was disappointed in the sighting and the recoil spring guide and plug. The recoil spring guide did not have a bevel on the end and is a tight fit into the recoil spring plug. This makes the assembly difficult I have two other 1911's, a Colt commander and Kimber long slide that have a slight bevel which makes collapsing the spring on assembly much easier. I put a slight bevel on the guide which cured that problem. The next issue is the pistol shoots eight to 10 inches high at 10 yards. The pistol has no adjustments so right now I'm stuck with compensating by putting the front sight down barely visible in the rear notch. Now that I know how to target it I can group just fine. Another issue which isn't a big deal is only 14 rounds fit in each magazine.
To sum it up, it shoots fine and is a solid gun. It doesn't feel cheap, or loose, it hasn't misfired or jammed yet but I only have a few hundred rounds through it. I feel for a thousand bucks I should get an accurate flawless gun like I got when I bought a Kimber. I currently have an email into Remington about the issues.

This is my first 1911. I held off on getting one because of the standard 1911's magazine capacity. I saw the Remington R1 enhanced 1911 with 15 round capacity (.45 ACP) and bought it. I just put about 12 magazines through it today at the range and I was blown away. It was really hard to shoot poorly. The trigger is the best I have shot and very light. I was able to hold a 1.5" group through the first magazine (first shots) @ 5 yards… and about the same at 10 yards. This pistol has high-rise sites to 'see' over a suppressor. At 15 yards I was actually shooting it high when holding the sights right on. Once I played with the point of aim I dialed it in. At 5 and 10 yards I was able to put double taps within 1" of each other (I have a moderate amount of shooting experience). Possible drawbacks could be the size of the grip and weight. The unloaded fire arm is 1150 grams - add the magazine w/230 grain rounds and it bumps up to 1530 grams (3.65lbs). The grip is relatively wide to accept all of those .45 ACP rounds - I have big hands and it felt good. Getting the last 2 rounds into the magazines took some force, but that will probably get better as they break in. Overall, I am blown away with this gun!

What you have here is the best double stack 45 ACP 1911/2011. My only gripes are the crummy sights it comes with compared to what you can get on a 1911. For the price premium I'd like to to not have some discount sights. Also I'd have liked an extended slide release. Beyond that its perfect. You really need to slam the 15 round mag home to get that first round to chamber properly with all 15 rounds in the mag. The magazine is the same size as my USP and yet has 3 more rounds in there. Its a solid 2 times the standard 7 round mag of a 1911, a very excellent achievement. I'm eager to get a suppressor on this thing and really test it out all the way, but as is, its the best shooting 45 I got. I just hope to add some better sights to really complete the package.
Remington had the 2011 market cornered and Its odd to see them discontinue this pistol.

Just what I wanted, hi-cap 1911, still love my Glock, hate the trigger. Fits all my holsters, bit heavier but not much bigger. First firearm I bought from Buds, not the last, kind of an Amazon for firearms.

Like all Remingtons I own this pistol is made with top quality workmanship. It not only looks good, it is made to work and keep on working. I will bet my life on it.

A:Yes, there is a noticeable half inch circumference difference on average. I have larger hands and prefer the double stack design although single stack will fit a wider range of hand sizes.See 1 more answer | -
