Very nice revolver. Smooth trigger and the grips are very comfortable.

What an excellent gun this is. Just as cool looking and fun to shoot as I expected. This thing is a blast, it can handle high pressure 357's like they're nothing. The short barrel doesn't change a whole lot compared to the long barrel 686 I recently switched for this. It's a shocker because I really expected there to be a significant difference but not much at all. I wanted a shorter barrel version to make it more practical for a bedside gun and you get an extra shot to go into the gun so how perfect is that?? Great gun all in all.

My S&W 686P .357 Magnum arrived at my FFL dealer in superb condition. The .357 Magnum round has been around for many, many decades, and has proven itself, time, and time again. Once again, than you Bud's Gun Shop for great service!!

First of all 3rd firearm purchase from Bud's and I have a 4th on layaway, always great service and their prices are so low it's crazy to buy anywhere else. I picked up the gun the day I was going out of town for Christmas vacation, I had a lot on my mind and did not thoroughly inspect it. Mistake. First time looking the gun over carefully I discovered one side of the trigger guard was missing approximately 1/8 inch chunk of metal with a sharp burr. Literally sharp enough to cut my finger when I held it. Also no spent shell casing in the box for some reason. Gun was quite dirty but I expected it after reading other S&W reviews WHAT IS UP WITH THAT. Since I had accepted the gun from the FFL it was too late to return it to Bud's so I had to contact S&W. They sent a prepaid return label and kept the gun 3 weeks, returned it to me fixed. Big, heavy (a good thing) intimidating-looking gun even in 2.5" that shoots soft and I love having a 7 shot revolver in the nightstand. I added a Pachmayr "compac" grip that makes it less cumbersome and more symmetrical, and also shortens the reach to the trigger. If you buy one make sure you inspect your gun thoroughly and check the box contents before you accept it from the FFL.

Excellent "Make Offer" accepted Price! Easy and painless transaction with both Bud's as well as my transfer FFL. We've all heard stories of "Hit or Miss" when it comes to newer S&W Revolvers' Quality control/assurance, but this one was clean, barrel is straight (not over or under-tightened), fairly tight and uniform cylinder gap. Proper timing. Most new smiths could use a lighter spring kit but this one had a very smooth action with a light pull. I'm almost exclusively a pre-lock Smith guy for sure, but I wanted a 7 shooter and I must say I'm not at all disappointed. It goes bang and is a straight shooter.

Just picked up the gun today so I haven't had a chance to shoot it, but it did not arrive as dirty as others apparently have. It looks like the only fired two or three rounds at the factory out of mine, aside from about two minutes of lead awaying the front of the cylinder mine was very clean. Double action is a little stiff but hopefully it will smooth out with use, single action is very good. All in all looks like another top quality S&W, not as smooth as my older 686-4 but is much smoother than the new S&W 69 I bought last year.

Yes, this arrived very dirty. I'd say that the S&W Techs are test firing a few rounds through their products, as I've received three or four other S&W revolvers in the same dirty condition. That isn't that big of an issue with me at least, as I always field strip and thoroughly clean every weapon prior to taking any weapon to the range for the first time (lead cleaning cloth or Break Free CLP with a brass brush, work excellently). I did have a bit of a rear sight issue though. My first few rounds were hitting far below my aiming point on the target. It took quite a few rear sight adjustments and more than a few test rounds to "click it in." I have this model in the 4" barrel and that hit the bulls eye with the first round. The 4" barrel is just a bit too much to CCW comfortably, as I carried one the first seven years of my career. And of course there's nothing like the penetration and expansion of a 357 magnum round with the excellent ammo currently on the market. With that extra round in the cylinder, this more than rivals semi-autos with no FTF's to consider.

As for Bud's, excellent service and shipping as always. If it wasn't for Bud's, I wouldn't have this 2-1/2" barrel, 7 shot beauty! I had it on my wish list for almost two years. But it was worth the wait, as no retailers in my state have had it in stock either.

I received this gun through Bud's great layaway plan. Many people give the edge to the s&w when compared to a Ruger; however I think the Ruger (GP100 or SP101) is starting to win these battles. The trigger on this 686p is extremely heavy. I fairly long hands and I am still reaching out pretty far with my index finger. The double action pull is really long; however, the single action takes only a hair touch. Overall, this is a fine gun. I understand the reasons why they are dirty at shipping but I have yet to have a Ruger shipped dirty. The extra mile does go a long way.

Fantastic beautiful pistol. I had already ordered the wood grips and this pistol is fine For the individual counting shots my other five shot pistols would be out while this one is still firing two more rounds

This gun screams quality! When I originally purchased this I had decided once I received it I would take it to a smith and have the trigger pull tuned. After using it and another just like it that had been tuned I saw no reason to spend the money. For such a short barrel this gun feels very steady in your hand when shooting and has amazing accuracy. I originally purchased this for my wife and it looks like we'll have to keep shopping for her because this has quickly become one of my favorite guns. When running 38's through it the recoil is negligible. Very sweet gun!
