Another GREAT GP100 variation! I worked at two gun ranges during the 80's and 90's, and saw the end of the "Security Six" and the advent of the GP series. Those first GPs were ok, got the job done, but were a bit crude in comparison to today's revolvers. Ruger has silently upgraded things along the decades! First, you get a trigger that is NOT just "ground flat" on its sides. The newer GPs have nice smooth surfaces on the trigger. Sad I suppose, because I used to charge good money to tear down the revolver, and round off the sharp edges on the trigger! Next is the overall finish.... much smoother, more refined than that of the 1986 introductory GP. And for me, saving the best for last, the old style spring/cup firing pin retainer/recoil-shield, has been replaced from a hard to fix "cross-pin" affair, with a nice screw in unit that is easy to service. Jeeze... while others have cheapened, Ruger just keeps getting better. Love it!
The .44 GP100 I got was nearly perfect. Let me quibble for the rear sight being screwed all the way over to the left. That's it folks. That's my only quibble!
Trigger, a little rough, but 200 or so dry firings got it to be like sliding ice on glass. Total smoothness.
Lock up, like a vault.
Timing, perfection.
Grips... I don't like the Hogue's but... Ruger makes a dandy set of "compact" grips, and I just got a set. All is well, but that's personal.
Sights, typical Ruger (there are 3rd party replacements, AKA "rough country" sights, should you want better).
Fit, finish and such - just perfect.
Love the "44 special" for its low recoil and big-stick whollop. Got a Charter too. Both revolvers have their place.
Big hole in the barrel, big chambers in the cylinder... big "nasty" put on the (non-paper) target.
As always... jeeze... I order this late on Sunday night, and pick it up Thursday at the FFL. No complaints about Bud's whatsoever!

I have been a .41 magnum fan since 1976. When I turned 18 I bought a S&W model 57 for a whopping $275.00, brand new, with the box and all the goodies. Years later bought a 4" model 29. It couldn't do anything my .41 could. I had read many articles on the .44 special. Have been a fan of the GP100, especially the 3" barrel. When I saw this .44 special on Buds I started saving my change and got a great deal on one here. At the time I didn't have any .44 special dies to reload. Ended up buying 500 rounds of ammo from Georgia Arms. Gave it a good cleaning and took it and 100 rounds to my back yard range that's good to 250 yards. I used to be able to hit 1 gallon jugs at 100 yards with the model 57, well rested. At 15 yards the sights were just putting the rounds to the left. Tweaked them went to shooting my 5" gong at 25 yards. Not rocket science but the bullets were dead on and had a nice 1.70 group. Next I went for the gong at 50 yards. Aiming dead center I was whacking it every shot. The recoil was zilch, thanks to the heavy weight of the revolver and the Hogue grips. Spent the rest of the ammo between the 15, 25 and 50 yard gongs. I threw a few off on the 50 yard gong, but nailed every shot at 15 and 25 yards. I've since replaced the grip with a wooden Hogue and have shot 2 pigs with it. Same 250 gr. round. Both shots were under 25 yards and only needed one shot for each pig. Bought a Bianchi cross draw holster and it carries the revolver and ammo with no problem. Spent a few evenings polishing it up with Flitz. Looks beautiful to my eyes. I plan on ordering some Buffalo Bore ammo to use on pigs and deer. I am going to start reloading my own rounds and see what kind of accuracy/penetration I can wring out of it. Great revolver and another (8) great deal from Buds!

My wife and I are fans of quality revolvers due to professional training in the 1980's. I mention the word quality because there is a difference. My guild gunsmith recommended this particular model to me and now I totally understand why. This is a quality build in every sense of the way. The only way I end up parting with this firearm is when my kids inherit it. My wife absolutely loves it and I hope she lets me shoot it sometime! LoL. This revolver is a Group 1 member of our home defense weapons.

I like .44 Special. The Ruger is a decent weight and the grip comfortable enough to make it easy to shoot. I haven't tried any heavy loads yet, but the 185 gr WC and 205 gr pointed flat nose from Pennbullets have been quite accurate.
The DA trigger pull is quite heavy but easy to control. Lots of people have commented about installing a new spring kit to tame that, and I suspect I will as well. SA is excellent. Good sights.
There are some rough edges, especially around the crane, but not worth talking to Ruger about. Overall, I'm just sorry I didn't get one before. Sorry to see they are discontinuing it.

I'm new to the gun world, so after doing some research and taking an introduction to firearms class at my local Gun Range, I decided to purchase a Ruger GP100 in .44 Special. The revolver is absolutely perfect! I had it at the range today and I can say the grip is very comfortable, the sights are easy to pick up and I found it to be very accurate! I'm very happy with this revolver and would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a reliable home defense gun that is comfortable to shoot. Thanks to Bud's for a smooth transaction and their product availability.

Love this Ruger! Fit and finish is very good, prefer the un fluted cylinder. If your looking for a dedicated 44 Special cambering this is the one to go with.

Love dealing with buds
This thing is a tank!
Well built with great features,I was looking at a bull dog,but this is the 44 special you want.
Love the non fluted cylinder and the sights are great.
Has great point ability and feels ergonomic in your hand.
I will be using this as a camp gun and sidearm while hunting and PP in the city.

This is a fantastic revolver from Ruger. They really got this one right, from barrel length to grip shape. I love the GP100 to start with, and this one is really perfect in 44 special. It shoots well with their ne load I’ve tried so far. I’m using the Sig Sauer 200 gr V Crown and at about 15 yds, they are punching through 1 big hole. As I said, the grip shape is great and I really like the feel of it overall. I particularly appreciate how Hogue “softened” the angles on this grip and gave it more subtle lines. It reminds me a little of the Jordan grips. Front sight is green fiber optic and picks up easily in daylight shooting. I didn’t realize how good these were and it l, no doubt, contribute le to this hose great groups. Ditto on the trigger. Light and pretty crisp in some Myles action though I have not actually gauged it. It’s quite a bit more expensive than the Charter Bulldog (which is also a great gun btw) but this is a substantially heavier gun. I’m definitely very pleased with this purchase and Bud’s really came through with the best price I could find, including the price match, and speedy shipping to my ffl. Thumbs way up!
