Russell, yes sir. The 18.5" barrel has a fixed cylinder bore choke, good for slugs and 00 Buck shot. The 28" barrel uses accu-choke tubes, and you can shoot slugs with improved cylinder choke tube and for 00 Buck you will get best results with full choke tube. Stay safe & have a great day!

Hi Russell and welcome. Yes Sir. Slugs and 00, 000 Buck are no issue. Just use Slugs with Cylinder and Modified Chokes only with the 28 inch barrel. Hornady Versa-tite and Federal Flite -Control wad buckshot loads give the best pattern with a Cylinder choke. Cheers and stay safe!

Mossberg does not offer this combination in 20 gauge only 12 gauge. They do offer the 20 gauge all purpose/field version. You could get this version and purchase a separate barrel. The mossberg 500 barrels will also work for the 88. Mossberg offers a 18.5” security barrel for the 20 gauge in the 500. Hope this helps

USED TO WORK AT A "BIG BOX" SPORTING GOODS AND WE SOLD BOTH GUNS... THE 500 IS DEFINITELY FAR SUPERIOR IF YOUR SHOTGUN IS OLDER. THE MAVERICK HAD A SINGLE SLIDE BAR-THE 500 TWO. THE 500 HAS A TOP MOUNT SAFETY, THE MAVERICK WAS IN TRIGERGUARD. PRETTY SURE THE 500 HELD ANTHER ROUND, AND THE RECOIL PAD WAS NICER.

It is a Maverick, made/sold by Mossberg. They are assembled in Eagle Pass, TX, with some of the parts being imported. Barrels, stocks, and magazine tubes, will (the barrel and magazines must be the same length) exchange with the Mossberg 500 line. The trigger group will not exchange with the 500.

Shotgun was pretty well lubed upon arrival. So far only used the 28” barrel for a round of trap shooting. Performed just a good as the much more expensive shotguns on the field. Barrel change out was simple and smooth. Recoil was not bad at all.

I am well pleased with my purchase. I was able to make a lot of upgrades of the mossberg 500 for half the price. Ready for home defense or for clay target shooting. I would definitely recommend this shotgun for all ages.

A quality product at an inexpensive price. Mossberg's are not and never were the best-looking shotguns. Yet, they have proven quality and durability, as good as the Remington 870; if not better. This particular Mossberg 12-gauge model "Maverick 88" with 2 barrels, 18.5" and 28' is an exceptional value. The shotgun came boxed in 3 pieces the stock/receiver and the 2 barrels; all well-oiled and preserved for packing and long storage. After assembly and the initial wipe down and function check I test fired it with the longer barrel. Action is stiff but after couple hundred rounds and repeated CLP should loosen up. Pump action shotguns are designed to be "muscled." Unlike semi-autos and break actions. The longer 28" barrel has nice vent rib and great dual bead sights.

Excellent, but needed to be stripped, cleaned, and lubricated before the action began to work smoothly. Not a bad idea to do that anyway. Not much to say beyond that. It feeds smoothly, goes bang when I pull the trigger. I haven't used the long barrel but might get out to frighten a few turkeys in the Fall. Bud's continues to offer the best prices, and quick delivery.
