I was quite skeptical with my first gun purchase online and from buds. I had a excellent gun buying experience and took advantage of the 90 day layaway program which I had paid off in a month. I purchased in full on a Wednesday and it shipped on Thursday and I received the following Monday at my FFL dealer. I would most definitely recommend buds gun shop to any of my friends and family and with my experience beings so well i'm thinking of becoming part of team buds since gun collecting is a hobby of mine. The gun came in perfect condition as it would come straight out of the factory and I would also recommend the Rock Island 1911 CS pistol to anyone. I'm very happy with my purchase and will most definitely considered more business with buds gun shop in near future. Thank you

I've had this RIA pistol for two years now and have been unexpectedly pleased with it. I use it in the "colder months" here in Florida as my EDC....a P3AT in the hotter months. The pistol shoots well and the quality is good. Recommend at least 200 rds break in period. I've replaced the wood with Hogue and it makes a big difference. It works nicely in my Alien Gear IWB holster. I would recommend this firearm to anyone wishing to carry a small, large caliber, concealed weapon.

I\'m going to give this pistol a 5 star, because there are some things that would actually be 6 stars, and others that are... 4 or maybe 3. You decide.

The good:
The finish is perfect. The slide to frame fit is better than my Colts, better than my (old) Detonics, Viking, Springfield, or any of my Caspian based builds. It feels like an Acc-U-Rail setup. The slide literally glides on the frame rails, with so little play its hardly detectable. The fit of the barrel is near perfect, perhaps too perfect for a defensive pistol. The front has very very little play, the rear is fit well both horizontally and vertically. The under-lugs are well fit, there is almost no vertical play when in battery. The fore/aft play is also nil, and that is as important as any other fitment in a 1911. The trigger on my measures 4.5lbs on the dot. Crisp. At the back of the slide, the extractor surface meets the slide surface perfectly, seamlessly. Same for the slide to frame fit there, it just all meets up perfectly. Amazing for an inexpensive pistol.

The bad:
The grip safety is horrible. The safety sticks out past the frame at the web part. It hurts just to dry fire this pistol, due to the sharp edges there. The trigger is also sharp - right in the middle of its grooved surface is a sharp ridge. Again, painful just to dry fire. Not trying to wimp out here, just that sharp edges should have been dealt with. How the slide and barrel could be fit so well, and the grip safety fit so poorly... dunno. The grips themselves are pretty on my pistol, but, they\'re a lot wider than they need to be, and shaped rather funny at the top. My rear sight came \"pre-dinged up\", with a nice ding in its top surface that makes the sight picture annoying.

Ok... bottom line... its an inexpensive pistol. The faults I noted, are easily corrected either at home, or by any \'smithy. My take on it - I don\'t like whale tail grip safeties. This is going to be a carry pistol. I don\'t want that huge safety there, so I\'ll fit up an Officers ACP grip safety, and even trim that back a bit. I don\'t want, or need, much in the way of a \"tang\" in back on my 1911\'s, the reasoning being that if there\'s nothing to pinch you against, you wont get pinched. That\'s just me though. The trigger can be smoothed in a few minutes time with a bit of wet/dry paper. No big deal. The grips themselves... are getting replaced anyway. The sight can also be smoothed, since while the ding is annoying, its not overly deep and I can hide it without removing a bunch of material (not enough to really effect the defensive range zeroing of the sights).

So what I got was an amazingly well fit pistol, where it counts the most, with a few sharp edges that can be dealt with very simply and easily.

In my little way of thinking, the fit and finish got the pistol a 6 out of 5... off the scale. The drawbacks of sharp edges... less than 5. I think they evened out, especially when you factor in the cost, which is pretty low in today\'s market.

Oh... and I forgot. The magazine is terrible too. Why an overly extended magazine on a carry pistol whose frame has been trimmed to make it smaller? Makes no sense. Can get Colt, Wilson, Springfield... whatever... Officers ACP sized mags to fit flush. The included magazine does work well though, and I\'m glad there\'s only one of \'em to never have to use!

I'm very impressed with the quality of the gun. Tolerances are very tight and the trigger is remarkably good for such an inexpensive gun. I had hesitated because the gun is so cheap, but this is a great gun for the money. I also was worried the grips would look cheap, but they look nice.

Have a rag ready - these things are absolutely soaked in oil when you get them. I do wish it came with a second magazine, but standard 1911 mags work with it so it isn't a big deal.

Very nice!

I received my RIA Compact M1911A-1 from my FFL yesterday. It shipped on Thursday and I had it after work on Friday. I could not disassemble it for cleaning before I took it to the range today because this gun is TIGHT. I managed to clean the excess machine oil off the exterior and took it to the range. At 5 yards, I was able to put an entire 50 round box of Perfecta 230 grain FMJ into an area about 6 inches in diameter center mass on a police B-5 target after I determined where the first few rounds hit. This gun is accurate, dependable and had surprisingly light recoil and all 50 rounds fired with no problems.
I bought two aftermarket magazines for my pistol to see how they functioned in my new RIA. I bought a 7-round Springfield Armory stainless steel magazine and a 7-round Kimber blued steel magazine. I also checked the reliability of the RIA marked (Italian ACT-MAG) magazine that came with the gun. All three performed reliably with no major problems. The Kimber magazine did have one FTF but that problem was quickly solved by pulling back on the slide and letting it go. (Maybe I limp-wristed that shot). I will need to take the gun to my dad who is a professional gunsmith to see if he can get the very tight slide lock lever out of the gun for disassembly and cleaning.
In fairness to RIA, they do say on the warranty card that a 500 round break-in period is necessary to loosen the gun up. I am VERY pleased with my RIA Compact. If this were a Colt or a Smith & Wesson, this would easily be a $700.00-$800.00 gun. I will certainly recommend Buds and RIA to my friends.

I bought this pistol, my first .45, because of the great reviews it got. The price was a deciding purchase factor, as was the comments about Rock Island's quality. When I went to the gun range the slide would not complete a full cycle. No feeding problems or anything like that but the slide was stopping short of completion. The firing pin stop was hanging up on the frame. Frustrating. I sent the gun back to Rock Island and to their credit, they repaired it beautifully, and within ten days. They replaced several parts.

The gun shoots great now but I can't give it 5 stars because of that initial hangup. Still, it seems to be a very good, well built .45. Bud's is a great, no hassle dealer.....very pleased with them.

Works great. I thought I would give a few details for anyone considering what I consider the best deal in a long time.

Some have mentioned malfunctions. This could be spotty QA, I don't know having only fired one gun. It absolutely requires a full de-greasing and cleaning before first use. It comes heavily coated from the factory. I did all of the above and had very good results.

I broke it in with 500 rounds of ball and hollowpoint from five different manufactures (Winchester, Remington, Privi, Herters, Blazer), all 230 grain. Only two qualified FTF at shots #405 and #435. In both cases was using some suspect looking Blazer bulk ammo with rough brass and discoloring over bullet and case, and the factory mag. All other ammo worked 100% with the factory mag; all ammo including Blazer worked 100% with a Sig 1911 mag. The only two malfunctions were with a hot and very dirty gun. Both malfunctions were the second shot meaning the first stripped from the RIA magazine for that string. Again, 100% all day with an after-market mag with any ammo. Also, the RIA mag seems pretty nice, for now I'll suspect the ammo.

The trigger is excellent. Finish very nice parkerized. It came with the subdued company logo vice the “billboard” etching, thanks. Weight and balance very nice, can easily double tap or mag dump at 10 yds into a baseball sized group. GI sights on for elevation and a sight blade or so left @ 25. All ammo brands easily shot into a 4 x 4 “ square at 25 with deliberate aimed fire once I worked out the Kentucky windage.

The grips were a surprise. They and the flathead screws don't look good in the picture and I expected to replace them. In fact they are a nice blonde wood with a satin finish that look nice and feel great.

My only real interest was reliability particularly with Remington HP. I ditched my Springfield Armory 1911 a decade ago as it was an unpredictable paperweight with zero relevant customer support. So I went into this with pretty low expectations, turns out five star in all categories. A good deal at $800, a fantastic deal at $400. YMMV.
