Awesome rifle out of the Box! I took my new Remington 700 5R 24in SS 308 out for the first time today for some break-in rounds. I shot two 5 round groups at 100 yards. Each shot was fired 3-5 minutes apart due to break-in cleaning between each round. Even with that being the case, I was able to produce a groups of .51 MOA and .73 MOA. The rifle is very well balanced and the action mounts firmly into the HS precision stock. The trigger however, is a little heavy. Overall, I am very happy with the results. I am so glad I chose the 5R.

4.5 stars, really....
Awesome platform for 308. The action and barrel alone are worth the price. I was getting ~1MOA with Hornady Steel Match during my break-in process, and dropped to 0.8MOA with Federal GM308M2 175gr. Changed out the trigger for a Timney 510 and immediately saw 0.5MOA groups with the same GM308M2 factory ammo. Took it out to the long range and got first-shot hits at 500, 600, and 750 yards (used Strelok Pro for doping). First shot at 1000yd kicked up dirt right near the target but I didn't have a spotter to verify hits after that. No doubt this rifle can perform at 1000yd.

Only things holding this back from a perfect, out-of-the-box, factory rifle are:
1) the X-Mark trigger. I was able to get 0.8MOA with the factory trigger but I could definitely feel it affecting my accuracy just by how much I had to pull, even at the lowest setting. The trigger itself is decent - very minimal creep and breaks nicely - it's just heavy for precision work.
2) the particular H.S. stock it comes in doesn't have an easily modified buttpad. It's a very thin strip of rubber fixed on with epoxy; no mounting screws so you can't just swap it out. I wanted to increase the length of pull on mine so this was a frustration point for me. I've since gotten used to the stock though.

All together this is a really great rifle, especially for a factory production firearm. Looking forward to seeing what it can do with handloads. Very happy with it and highly recommended for shooting 308.

I have bough more guns from Bud's than I care to remember. I always look to them first; best prices and great service. Have never had an issue. This is my second Remington 5R rifle...the first being in 300 wm. Accuracy is incredible for a box factory rifle. I have changed to McMillan stock and Timney trigger and I'm already getting consistent 1/2 moa groups...and I have not even bedded the stock yet. However, the HS stocks are good to go, I just prefer the McMillan. If you are looking for a near custom rifle with fantastic out of the box accuracy potential (as long as you do your part in shooting) then this is it right here. I have noticed a big difference in cleaning these 5R barrels vs Remington's standard cut rifling. There is quite a bit less fouling and they clean up faster. I have not chrono'd this one yet but will see how the speeds compare to my other Remington Varmint. I am expecting a little bit more velocity with the 5R. Loves the 175 gr bullets and shooting the 168's very well to. Can't go wrong with Buds or the 5R.

After doing a lot of research I bought this rifle. I have to say I am not disappointed in the least. This rifle shoots great out of the box. It shoots sub MOA at 100 yds 200 yds and 300 yds. Our range does not go past 300 yds ... so I have not tried any longer distances yet. If you want a great factory rifle that is accurate and fun to shoot, then this is it. The only thing I changed on mine was the trigger. I went with a Timney Calvin Elite, and could not be happier. Buds had the best price, especially with free shipping!!!

Just took delivery of this gun today and, although I haven't shot it yet, it is amazing! I love the HS Precision stock and the varmint contoured barrel. Action is nice and smooth right out of the box. In fact, I think it feels as good or better than my dad's 30+ year old 700 BDL. Bud's has the best price on this gun I've seen. I can't wait to get this thing to the range!

The X-Mark Pro trigger is JUNK !!! Could not adjust lower than 6 # pull . Replaced it with a Timney trigger , adjusted to slightly over 2 # , great trigger . However , the rifle is truly something to behold , 200 yard groups routinely average 1/2" . 700 yard groups are 2 " . It maintains this level of accuracy shot after shot , even after I have not cleaned the bore in more than 300 shots . The action is SMOOTH !
GREAT RIFLE and Great Store.

Excellent out of the box finish. Hitting one inch groups @ 500 yards after 50 shot break-in.

I've had my 700 5R SS for almost a year and I can say it's a tack driver. Consistently shoots sub-MOA. I have a 15 MOA rail and mounted a Nikon Monarch and I've been getting great results. Good value for the cost.

Shipping was smooth and easy to the local FFL.

I went to my FFL to pick up my Remington 700 5R mil spec, and was in love with it. The stock felt great and the stainless finish looked great at the time. I cycled the bolt and it didn't feel right and thought that it just a new gun and will break in,so I accepted the transfer huge mistake!!!!
I got home and my brother noticed a deep 1" or so scratch in the end of the barrel. There was what looked to be bluing that was applied on the sides and rear tang that was supposed to be to cover up the aluminum bedding that would have been seen. their were big casting marks/extra metal where the bolt had to cam on the receiver,so I cleaned it up and polished it back to good as new. Well that fixed nothing but cosmetics, the bolt still had a loud hard engagement. I checked everything tuned the trigger, sear, lapped the bolt lugs, trued up and polished all parts, greased and oiled everything to spec, and some!!
Well it seemed to get better and assembled the rifle,so I mounted my base, lapped and torqed my rings to spec and mounted my scope.I went to show it off and the hard bolt came back but even better!! It now sounds like a turkey call!!! there is grease on the back of the lugs firing pin cam,oil on bolt body's a bad alignment of the bolt or a warped receiver.I took a peek inside the barrel to see the 5r rifling an noticed what looked like pieces of dust or something, so I cleaned it out I used a bore guide and carbon fiber rod. oh boy, my bad Remington, I wasn't supposed to see this either was I? As far as I can see 2-3" inside barrel with a flashlight 6 or so deeeeeep scratches on the rifling groves 4out of 5 leads. There's so much copper inside it,it looks like it was dipped in it!! From the test bullets being fired threw tha crap barre!! The stocks aluminum bedding block on the tang portion was half way covered by the stocks paint/texturing. So if the accuracy sucked from any of the above this would sure help it out!
I want my money back or a new gun! But not a Remington!!
My old Remington an me can be seen taking shots out past 800 yards on YouTube,it was a good shooter, but right now I'm stuck with a 1100$ piece of junk because I tuned Their trigger and it voids warranty!
