These Marlin 1894 series rifles are a true joy to shoot and now with the quality returning to the line you just can’t beat them. The 1894cb in 44mag is a great little thumper and with 44special it’s a real pleasure for an afternoon of plinking. Fit and finish are nice, wood is beautiful and the octagonal barrel makes it a true classic. Accuracy is dead on as with any Marlin but for consistency stick on a Skinner sight. Be careful when ordering the picture depicts a checkered stock but I received a smooth stock. Very happy with the gun but also surprised when I opened the box....little misleading on the chat line....I love this rifle and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a 44cal lever gun.

My first Marlin and only fired it a few times. So far satisfied with the purchase. Constructive criticism: the rifle cycles and functions well with the exception of the trigger which is quite stiff. Will likely be doing something to improve it. A better job could have been done on the wood finish but a few generous rubs with Ballistol makes a big difference. Pleasantly surprised with the checkered stock. Marlin’s current product information on the 1894 Cowboy does not depict checkering. Pleased with the classic appearance of the rifle and its octagonal barrel. Based on limited experience, would purchase again but I believe Marlin’s pricing for this Cowboy version of the 1894 is a bit overpriced.

I bought the Marlin 44 magnum a couple weeks ago. It's great. Fit & finish are excellent. No operational issues outside of some new gun stiffness issues that disappeared after firing some magnum rounds! The butt pad is hard plastic so I bought a slip-on Limbsaver (small size) and that helps big time. Marlin has some confusion with this model that is not fully described on their web site....There are actually two rifles that share the same model number but are different. So call Buds to make sure you get the checkered, or uncheckered stock. Their customer service people worked through it all and the octagonal barrel and checkered stock is what I wanted. That model is the Cowboy Limited model. The model name is engraved on the barrel left side. Also remove the buckhorn rear sight and install a Skinner rear peep-sight with the optional small apertures...44 magum is Awesome!

After a LOT of consideration before ordering I thought I would take a shot. Bottom line: I like this little rifle very much. Stands side by side with my Henry Big Boy and in many Respects. I don't know how to compare them really other than to say that the Marlin is a Chevrolet and the Henry is a Cadillac. Both will get you down a dirt road anyday. When the road is muddy you will want to drive the Chevy! When its show time - drive the Caddy (I guess). This is my most recent experience with a 2018 Marlin Product. Yes, I called it a Marlin and wouldn't be fair not to give them credit.

Love this rifle! Action seemed tight and a little gritty at first. I'm a gun tinkerer, enthusiast and want to be cowboy action shooter. I took it all apart and smoothed out all the mating surfaces of the action. Runs like a dream now with either 44 mag or 44 special.

Piece of garbage. Rough action, jammed up completely on the third round, unserviceable in the field. Winchester got it right in the 1860's, why can't Marlin do it now? I'll never buy another Marlin- it is unfathomable that such a lump of crap could get through any decent QA appraisal. I really missed shooting .44 mag, and was eager to begin again after divesting myself of another brand's rifle that was equally worthless. And, sadly, I'm reminded of yet another company's gun that was also plagued with problems right out of the box. I do not understand what is happening now, but my experience with this gun and previous ones may well have pushed me right out of the hobby. I'm very aware of the problems with the "new" Marlin lever guns, and refrained from buying one for a long time; I was even sympathetic regarding their situation as I learned more about it, but this rifle was so unpardonably poor that there is, as far as I'm concerned, nothing that Marlin can do to restore their reputation. Having gone through some upheaval recently and not being able to shoot, I was thrilled to finally get out after many months, and just wanted to have a good day in the field. Marlin ruined that for me in about two minutes. I brought some other guns to shoot, but my enjoyment was understandably compromised. This is my loss- these things happen, and I want nothing in return; my bitter lesson learned is simply to never, ever buy a Marlin again. This bad review only concerns the gun- my dealings with Bud's have always been first rate, and I will continue to buy from them, just not another Marlin.

Absolutely great purchase. Finely crafted rifle, beautiful wood stock, sharp checkering and sound fit up. I bought this gun on August 21 and I was at my chosen FFL dealer the morning of August 22 completed paperwork and left store with new treasure in tow. Incredibly fast shipping from this seller. I have not shot this rifle yet but I'm certain it will be true to the mark. - - - FIVE STARS - - - !!!!!

Rifle looks and feels great! Fit and finish are very nice, as is the bluing and I love the octagon barrel. Only complaint from keeping it at a perfect 5 is the stiff action (which should loosen over time) and the very heavy trigger. It's a lever action but my older levers (pre-marlin) have much better triggers and smoother actions. Regardless it's a nice rifle and I'm glad I bought it. Thanks Buds.

Buds dose a great job as always best price around and got the rifle in about a week. The rifle is nice not quite as good as the old marlins every thing functions vary well the action is smooth and it's vary accurate this rifle is capable of sub MOA the only reason I give it 4 stars is because the wood doesn't have quite a good of fit as i would like it's pretty good but it could be better. over all its a vary nice rifle I would definitely buy this gun again
