The P-3AT has five main component groups: barrel, slide, firing mechanism, grip, and magazine. The barrel is made of SAE 4140 ordnance steel, heat treated to 48 HRC. The slide is also 4140 steel, and contains the firing pin and the extractor. The rectangular frame is machined from solid 7075-T6 aluminum and houses the firing mechanism. The trigger connects via a transfer bar to the hammer. The hammer is driven by a novel free floating extension spring. The light weight firing pin transmits the energy of the hammer to ignite the primer. After firing, the hammer block holds the hammer away from the firing pin, providing a mechanical safety.

Shoots well after about 100 rounds. Not very good sights but good for a pocket pistol. I'm well pleased with it

I purchased the Kel-Tec P-3AT-GY from Buds, based primarily on weight, plus the Kel-Tek's reputation. Buds was, as always, perfect. The Kel-Tek is certainly small and light. The P-3AT loaded and holstered matches my iPhone6 in its OtterBox Strada case for dimensions, weight, and profile in my pocket and is an undetectable 0.07" thicker. No one leaves an iPhone or a 8.3 ounce (10.1 ounce loaded) Kel-Tec P-3AT behind, at least not because carrying it would be a burden. All of the above should be expected by anyone considering this choice. The sights on this handgun are almost useless. I shoot a lot and usually shoot well, but my eyes are over 50 years old and aiming with those tiny little bumps gave me 5 inch diameter groups at 15 feet. That's good enough inside the distance where a concealed carry weapon might be used for self-defense, but only barely. With Crimson Trace mounted, I could rapidly and consistently fire groups the diameter of a quarter. The Kel-Tek P-3AT's size makes it a good choice for an extremely small concealed carry weapon even without Crimson Trace, but it's excellent when paired with the laser. Reliability is important in a concealed carry handgun. In 200 rounds of cheap ammo, I had no failures to fire, no failures to extract, and no other issues. Despite the expectation of a break in period, this was as good out of the box as one could wish. The miniature sights can be corrected with a lightweight laser. The long and somehow unfamiliar trigger pull (I can't find the right words, but of course the trigger compares unfavorably with full-size handguns) should knock a star off, but the extraordinary size/weight earns that star back. This is not in any way a range gun. It's not fun to shoot, and I would never under any circumstances allow a new shooter to try the P-3AT, for fear of turning someone off to shooting sports. It's a concealed carry gun, only, and I give it five stars for that purpose.

Pretty good for the price, will go bang when you need it.

It goes bang when I want it to, it eats everything I throw at it, it fits perfectly into my pocket. Not exactly fun to shoot, but I didn't buy it for the range. This was my 3rd purchase from Bud's and as always, it was a perfect transaction!!

Just O.k... The gun is tight and shoots o.k... the fit and finish is not the greatest and take down is tricky at first.. I would spend a few more dollars and get Ruger LCP.

Wonderful little gun. After waiting for the perfect version, HK grey, I bought this and Durakoted the receiver grey. Shoots very well and after 200 rounds through it I've had one FTF and one FTE. Both at the end of a rapid fire session when the weapon heated up and both easily cleared. I carry this in my front pocket in a Desantis pocket holster and am very happy with the concealability of it. I did buy a pocket clip but ended up removing it as I like to just carry it in the holster. I also bought the finger extension for the magazines and ended up not using them as they just are not needed.

Great firearm! Its everything I expected and more. Put 125 rounds through it of Remington UMC JHP with no problems, malfunctions, etc. The owners manual states failure to eject and feed should be expected within the initial 50-100 rounds (break-in period). Based on previous reviews I read on the P3AT and with Kel-Tec even stating issues should be expected... I was pleased when after 100+ rounds from a 6,7, and 9 round mag produced no issues. Rapid fire, slow, controlled from 15 yards, weak hand, two handed, etc and not a single issue from the first shot to the last. I was impressed with the accuracy POA=POI at 15 yards. I put about two mags through a Ruger LCP at 7 yards and was disgusted with the sight picture and accuracy, perhaps I just wasn't as excited about shooting someone elses LCP. However, I was very excited about firing this P3AT and I'd have to say bang for the buck nothing can compete with this gun. I wear a size 9/10 (medium/large) duty/shooting glove and the P3AT fit nicely in my hand and was very managable even with the limited amount of fingers I could get around the grip. As far as my experience with 7 rounds of +P 90grain JHP Buffalo Bore, I would rather just stay away from those unless you really felt they were necassary. This is my opinion on MY P3AT, should all the other P3ATs on the market function like mine, I couldn't see how any buyer would ever be disappointed.
