The Smith & Wesson Shield 9mm is an awesome pistol. It is great for concealed carry. It is not the smallest carry pistol but it is very shootable which is a big plus for me. It is actually the best shooting small single stack 9mm out of all that I tried/tested. The nigh sights are good to go also. If you are looking for a single stack 9mm for carry it's hard to go wrong with the Shield. I strongly recommend it and if I had the $ I would get another one.

This is an absolutely wonderful pistol and this particular package is the right way to buy it. This one came with factory night sights and a total of three (3) magazines, and at the price charged represents incredible value for money expended. This is not my first Shield, I keep getting talked out of them by my students. But this is the best one so far and is a great deal, whether you buy it at the regular price, or the even better Qualified Professional price as I did. Kudos to Buds for excellent service, and to Smith and Wesson for an excellent pistol.

This is a great concealed carry firearm for everyday carry. The shield has good sights for a firearm its size that make it accurate and easy to acquire for follow up shots. Another great thing Smith&Wesson did was give you one extended magazine for those with bigger hands which also adds one to magazine capacity. For those looking to compare this to other firearms its size it is a little taller than the Glock 43 and grip is wider which i like.

The Good: Buds Buds shipping and service was, as expected, top shelf. I love the Buds QP program, and I was very excited to receive this pistol through it. It shipped the next day and I had the pistol in about 3 days from the time I submitted payment. I will continue to shop with Buds as my experience has always been great. The not-so-good: S&W I received the Shield-9 at my local FFL (who I learned while picking up, has gone up $5 on their transfer fee, but that's neither here nor there) and everything looked to be in order. Everything moved and aligned as it should, the finish was fine, so I signed away and walked out the door. When I arrived home that night I took the shield out of the box again to take it down and lube it. While doing so I took it into a dark room to check out the factory night sights. To my annoyance the front sight was completely dead - not even a glimmer of lume. I checked it a couple of more times, shocked that it would arrive DOA, but after checking in different rooms (and having the Mrs. look too) it was indeed a no-go. I promptly emailed S&W with the issue that night and I received prompt, albeit canned, email reply the next morning asking me to call to setup repair. As anticipated they sent me a pre-paid FedEx return label, which I had to call and have them correct as it first arrived without my return address (just my name and city/state). This would have been an issue at FedEx, especially since I was shipping a firearm. The c/s agent was helpful enough and sent me back another label with all addresses included. I packed it up and dashed it off to the FedEx center a couple of miles up the road from me. That was on a Friday and the pistol arrived to S&W that Monday. I received a "batching email" stating my pistol had been received that Thursday. After a week I called to check with S&W as to the ETA of my repair, to which I was told "3-4 weeks." While I understand the general premise of this, I was not impressed as we were dealing with a brand new handgun, one which had not even been fired, that was being returned to correct a direct QC oversight from their factory. They were completely cold and unapologetic to this. Fast forward 3 more weeks and I have now received my pistol from repair. They replaced the front sight, but, and I realize this is picking nits, the epoxy layer over the tritium bar is a little sloppy. I can see drippage at the bottom. It functions well enough, so I'm just going to live with it. But, overall I am not impressed with S&W's customer service. For comparison: I sent Ruger my SP101 a couple of years ago after it went out of time. I sent it on a Thursday and had it back in my hands the following Thursday. THAT was customer service. Would I recommend the Shield? Unquestionably. I've had one before (the .40 with thumb safety and white dots) and the pistol is fantastic. I'm just a little jaded with the c/s experience.
