Lithideth, yes. The Barrel is Stamped 5.56NATO so .223 Ammunition can be safely fired.

Lithideth - it is perfectly acceptable to use 5.56 ammo in this rifle, according to the Mossberg web site. The .223 is, generally, a bit less expensive than 5.56.

I contacted Mossberg and the MVP LR stock is painted wood with pillar bedding according to the Mossberg Rep

Every review I've ever read on this rifle references the nice, synthetic, stock. Guess we can now disregard every gun review we read. Obviously they never contacted Mossberg and asked. Typical. A lie will travel a million miles, and the truth dies before it leaves the gate.
