Mossberg & Sons Patriot .338 Win Mag Bolt Action Rifle - 22" Barrel, 4 Rounds, Wood

Fantastic piece of equipment

First things first....... the picture does not correctly represent the rifle that I received. The picture shows Weaver style bases and adjustable rifle sights; however, the rifle arrived with only adjustable rifle sights....no bases. A quick look up of the model number on Mossberg's site shows that the rifle only comes with adjustable rifle sights so the rifle is actually correct, but the picture is a misrepresentation. Not a deal breaker, but a let-down nonetheless as I was expecting what the picture shows. Aside from that, the rifle shoots great! The soft buttpad is a welcome addition as this rifle is a shoulder thumper! I have read reviews that state that the bolt feels "wobbly" when fully retracted, and I would have to agree with this. It does. It doesn't seem to affect performance though. Currently looking at available bases to fit to the rifle and add a scope. If not for the misleading pic, then this would have been 5 stars. Still, I'm really looking forward to my first big game hunt with this rifle.

Great rifle! I have a 3 other Patriots in other calibers, and thought why not add yet another! I really like the fact these come with iron sights. Nice touch. They are Williams surefire sights, so they are good visibility. Wood stock is very nice and smoothly finished. The bolt runs smoothly, though there is a bit of slop when opened all the way (all Patriots seem to have this and it doesn't hinder anything) possibly because of the sheer length of the action. Plastic box mag holds 3 rounds.. any Patriot magazine that is a long action will fit and hold the same amount. Recoil pad is nice ( you are going to need it, the recoil is pretty substantial). All in all, I'd say the Mossberg are absolutely the best bang for your buck.. ESPECIALLY when you are getting into a dangerous game capable rifle for the price.
