I just picked up my 6\" 617 this afternoon from my FFL. The barrel was perfectly aligned. The cylinder pops open and closes like any other new S&W revolver. The barrel has a more satin finish than the frame. The frame has a more polished look. But so what? That\'s all gonna smooth out with use & time. The windage was spot on and I was hitting a 6\" \"shoot N\' see\" target at 25 yards easily. A couple clicks for the elevation and I was hitting 2-3\" groups with Federal AutoMatch single action, taking my time. The front sight is steel, just like the fully adjustable rear sight. The pistol is practically identical in every aspect of fit & finish/weight to my 4\" 686, only difference is my 617 has a 6\" barrel and it\'s chambered for 22lr. The trigger pull is about the same as my 686. But mind you, I\'ve been shooting revolvers for 28 years. I\'m used to the double action trigger pull on these things so what may feel fine for me may not feel fine for you. The trigger was smooth, has a clean break, and a great way to build & develop strength in ones fingers I freakin\' love this pistol. It was not cheap, but IMHO, worth every penny. BUY IT!

Excellent gun, must have put 500 rds through it the day I got it. Hits what your aiming at and goes bang every time. My only regret is that I didn%u2019t get the 4%u201D barrel. The 6%u201D is probably the better shooter, but I%u2019d imagine the 4%u201D being a better kit/ trail gun. Either way, can%u2019t go wrong.

Very nice shooter that gobbles up any velocity .22 ammo. Only complaint is ejecting 10 rounds is a little tougher than 6 fired rounds. I guess thats the penalty to not having to reload as often. You can't beat Buds. Fast delivery and great service. I mounted a scope on this .22 and made it a great little hunter.

Cylinder was binding on opening and closing as well as advancing. Unable to fire had to send back to S&W for adjustment. Issue was taken care of it and I am happy with it. Very accurate.

This is a 10 round 22. The first time I used this gun I was only able to fire 5 of the 10 rounds in single action. The second time I was only able to fire one round. I experienced the same problems in using double action. I also had trouble closing the cylinder during this process and had to use the palm of my hand to close. Did not happen again? In the end I found that the gun would fire with a very strong took almost more strength than I had to fire the weapon. I called S&W when I got home and was told to return the gun for repairs. The gun has not been returned to me at this point in time. They have had the gun for a week.

I bought a Smith & Wesson Model 617 10-round 22LR revolver with a 6-inch barrel from Bud's, primarily for plinking and use at a gun range (with inexpensive ammunition). The Bud's purchase experience and FFL transfer were easy without issue. I made a small adjustment to the sights on the M617 after the first 200 rounds fired, and have been very happy with the revolver since. This is my go-to gun on the local gun range because of the low cost of the 22LR ammo. I like the feel, size, weight, barrel length, and looks of this revolver. It is very easy for me to load and shoot, and I am "comfortably" accurate with the gun. I will say that my wife did not like this revolver because of the weight and size. We ended up buying her a smaller model S&W 22LR revolver for use at the range. For a long-term investment and a solid, fun-to-shoot revolver, I can highly recommend this model.
