buds beat the cost of all but one local gun dealer and this includes the fee I will pay to recieve the gun . I'd check all prices and add FFA fees. The customer service representitive actually took time to find the least expensive fee for me in my area. Double action gun Range charges $75! She directed me to Motor City Guns whos fee is $25! That's a big savings! This was excellent service provided from Buds Gun Shop! On the criticle side: bud's statists for the gun were scant. Another dealer was more detailed. It was there I discoved my 686 will be a square butt. This was important to know if you want to change the grips! as Buds does not open the gun package from the dealer before postage to you FFA, They aren't responsible for a bad mproduct, so check it carefully before accepting it! I rate Buds 8-10 for their service and prices and recomment buying from them.

I already own and love a 6" 686. I'd been wanting a Plus in a shorter barrel for my extended deep woods excursions. I waited for a while for a 2 - 3" 686 to come available, and bought this revolver in mid-February. I didn't notice during delivery inspection that the front sight's pin is missing. I found some metal shavings where the front blade sight sits in its mount. It's probably related to the fact that the gun shot way low out of the box, like 6 - 8" low at 10 yards. A sight pin is a $2 part, and anyway, I'm planning to replace the front blade with Meprolight night sights, so I'm not concerned about this. I've spent about 6 weeks with it now, put close to 1000 rounds through it. Once I got it sighted in, it shoots pretty well. It's not the long-range threat my 6" 686 is, but it easily groups a couple of inches at combat distances and it's a lot easier to carry. The trigger is crisp and good, as you'd expect from an S&W, and the 3" barrel length gives it good balance. At 35 oz, it's heavy enough to absorb a lot of .357 recoil. I did a fairly exhaustive test with different brands and weights of ammunition and found it relatively pleasant and accurate with most 158g bullet weights. I've settled on Speer Gold Dots as a carry round. The Remington 125g HTP JHPs shot pretty well also. This is an old-school, mean factory load, but the 686 is heavy enough that it's just spicy, not brutal. I think that would be your very best manstopper among commercial defensive ammunition. I'm going to stick with the Gold Dots personally. In the woods, I carry it inside the waist, in the small of my back in a Triple K #314. Fits great underneath a long shirttail shirt and pack, but is still handy.

Very happy with the purchase from Buds. The 686 plus 3 inch is balanced so well and great for conceal carry. Also I like that no one has handled the brand new guns from Buds, my 686 have no turn rings, flawless new, unlike many gun shops where everyone has handled the weapon and possibly dry fired. Buds is the only way I will go in the future!

I would like to let the world know what a great experience buying from Bud's. Very easy to deal with and I could not have gone to get the gun myself as fast as they got it to me. And as far as the gun goes, well its a smith & wesson how could you go wrong ? I will do more business in the future with Buds.

Have had this for over a year and only now have noticed after seeing almost every 686 owner Ive met and read of say there is a PROBLEM with the barrels being OVERTIGHTENED and causing offset frnt sights and some SCORING bullets due to offset cylinder/barrel alignment.... WELL GUESS WHAT, apparently it's been a problem at least since I purchased mine cause mine has same issue, luckily it only has ONE machine mark(!!) on top strap. Thought it'd get better in the performance center pistols, go check review's on the M627 357 2.5 Stainless Perf Center on this website, SAME THING. Called S&W today with no apology, just "we'll send out a label, and you can have two issues resolved, PICK THEM CAREFULLY!!", WHAT THE HECK, is this an $800 MSRP Smith And Wesson, or is this a WASR-10 Century. ABSOLUTELY NOT Bud's fault, but DANG!!! THIS SUCKS, others got theirs BACK from repair, with NO REPAIR, so hope it get's FIXED. Will report back.... So amazing in this era of CNC machining, and electronic measurement's THIS MANY DIFFERENT VARIETIES of S&W revolvers are leaving in this condition, wish I could say "Oh, that's what you get with a......" IT'S A SMITH!! Oi vey!
