Well, I received my new FN SLP MK 1 a week ago. I cleaned it and loaded it up with a variety of ammo. It definitely will not take light loads such as birdshot, whether high brass, or low brass. The new model comes with the single gold gas piston, not sure whether it was suppose to handle both light and heavy loads, but light loads will not cycle, period. I loaded up some buckshot and slugs, it fired and cycled as fast as you can pull the trigger. I purchased the FN SLP MK1 for home defense and as a fighting gun, so I won't be shooting anything besides buckshot and slugs in it anyways. I probably should have purchased it when the price was below $1000, but that's hind sight now. All in all, I'm happy with it unless it starts failing to cycle with heavy loads. A word to the wise, if you are looking for a shotgun that shoots everything, you need to look elsewhere.

If you are looking for a great home defense shotgun this may be the one for you. This gun really impressed me. The quality of the materials used and the way they are put together are second to none. You just can't see that in a photo or a Utube video. I spent about an hour disassembling and cleaning the gun before I ever fired it. Even removed the trigger group and wiped it down. The first live fire was 5 Remington game loads - 2 3/4 inch, 6 shot, 1 oz. squeezed off slowly. The second 5 were shot as fast as I could pull the trigger. It functioned perfectly with both groups. I then proceeded to load and fire the cheapest 12 gauge ammo I have - Suprema (made in Spain) from Walmart at $5.88 a box. They have the same specs as the Remingtons but are loaded with 7.5 shot. It devoured two boxes without a FTF or FTE. It functioned like a gun that had been broken in and used for years. Although it's primary mission is defense I plan to hunt birds with it and shoot sporting clays. I have not yet shot slugs through it but I am guessing it will pattern them pretty well with that fold up rear sight and the red fiber up front. So, if I plug the magazine I might try to drop a whitetail with it next season. This gun is not cheap. But, I don't think you will be disappointed if you buy one.

Great shotty. Devours shells and vomits lead. One thing to note is that FN no longer includes a heavy and a light piston, instead just having a medium-heavy piston. While the leaflet explaining this change says that the piston is meant for only 1 1/4oz loads and up, it cycled 1 1/8oz flawlessly. I have yet to test out 1oz loads, but I have a feeling those will do fine as well. The checkering on the grips is very well done and quite sharp, so get some good gloves or it'll tear your hands up after a couple boxes. I have a feeling this is the last shotgun I'll ever buy/need.

Beautiful work! I used the lay-away plan; process was very good. Takes some time for funds to get there and then clear, but, (always a but), it is a real customer benifit that alowed me to secure and purchase a high end firearm at a time when they were flying off the shelves and I had limited cash flow. Thank you Bud's. First rate experience, especially considering the volume Bud's is handling right now; impressive. As far as the FNH SLP MK1....WOW! First class all the way. Comes in a real nice hard case (plastic); nice pakage. Turned heads..Delivered with everything listed, (even has a nice covering of cosmoline to clean off her...Kind of get to know the beauty of the beast. I have yet to shoot her; -14* outside. Will wait for a warm up to pattern her in.....Can't wait! Not my first FN so my expitation is real high. Will post on performance.

Best shot gun for the money. It cycles low brass very well. Even when I was breaking it in, it never miss fired. Not even once. I should've gotten this FN SLP Mark 1 a long time ago. You will not be disappointed. Very very happy.
