Not impressed so far. Haven't fired it yet but initial impressions of the fit and finish are not favorable. My observations: - The take-down tool is impossible to remove. I had to use a pair of vice grips to get the damn thing out and it was just as difficult to get it back in. - The slide-to-frame fit is pretty bad. Lots of slop and the slide doesn't go back on to the frame smoothly after take-down. Lots of wiggling and pressure needed to get it back on. - The trigger is terrible. The release is acceptably crisp but you have to pull it through a yard of gravel first. Crunch, crunch, crunch, click! - Safety is non-intuitive. Up for safe, down to fire is the opposite of what I expected and different than every other hand gun I own. We'll see how it does at the range but at this point, I'm thinking the Glock 22 would have been a better choice.

The M&P 40 I bought came with the sights way off the mark and the accuracy with different ammo is not very good or competitive with other brands. I am dissapointed in the gun.

First thing's first...kudos to Bud's for their outstanding service as usual. Ordered late Sunday night, picked up Wednesday morning without incident. My first impression when I opened the box was the M&P is an awesome looking pistol, all business. Ergonomics are top notch once you find which grip insert works best for you. I have small hands so the small insert was perfect, made the "full size" pistol feel very comfortable and controllable. I have run about 350 rounds through it so far and I'm favorably impressed. I have experienced 0 malfunctions. The trigger began to smooth out after about 200 rounds and became very good, some take-up but a crisp let-off. Recoil is remarkebly light, especially compared to my other .40 caliber pistol. The M&P is an easy pistol to shoot well and has displayed rock solid reliability right out of the box. Coupled with Bud's low price and service, the "american made" M&P should be high on your list of choices for a serious self defense pistol.
