I love Ruger firearms, always have, and own seven various. This model isn't merely beautiful to look at. It is extremely accurate and absolutely reliable with various types of ammo, though I recommend high-velocity ammo with all semi-auto .22 Long Rifle pistols. Zero failure to fire, eject, feed in several hundred rounds so far, and I expect none as time goes on. The singular "possible" problem is if one decides to disassemble the inner working guts and upon re-assembling, it IS very tricky and might require a qualified gunsmith. So, don't. Clean barrel and spray some foaming cleaner into the aft mechanism, let drain, then blow out after. Ruger has made a modification that eliminates this potential problem with the Mk-4 model, but I still love this one!

Love this RUGER Mark lll and am glad I put it on layaway just before BUDS sold out. Price is unbeatable, only about $90 more than I paid for same exact RUGER(a Mark 2 though), back in January 1987! Few differences from the Mark 2 I once owned; Mag release relocated from bottom of grip to side(a plus) and that goofy chamber-loaded indicator on the side(a minus, maybe). Shoots great, balanced well, good machining and finishing throughout. Fired over 350 rounds, various brands ammo, all without a single failure of any kind. Right out of the box, cleaned it up and oiled her and shoots like a champ. Very accurate indeed, though the front sights could use some paint or white for easier to see. This gun was much less expensive than the newer Mark lV, only difference is it can`t be field-stripped routinely. Spray it out w/ Gunscrubber, get in there with a brush, but I`ll NEVER even attempt to disassemble and reassemble the action on one of these again(learned my lesson with the Mark ll !). I can see why these gems are out of stock! Buy one if you see one avail, and BUDS is absolutely the BEST to do business with always!

Great pistol. Super accurate, good looking, no failure to function. But a beast to field strip and put back together. I still love this pistol. The transaction was smooth, of course. Thanks Bud's!

Well I received my new 10103 Mark III Target 5.5 on 11-05-2015. And it was an immediate disappointment. It has experienced a number of issues since it was received. I took it to the range the following day after cleaning it and I fired about 100 rounds and another 100 rounds a few days later. And during the two times I had about 10 failures to load the next round while firing, with about the same number of failure to clear the breech. I had at least 3 which were struck but failed to fire. I also experienced about 5 or 6 times where the gun failed to chamber a round after releasing the bolt. From the very beginning pressing the magazine release would not release the magazine. It was like it had never been pressed. And after oiling, pressing and working the release button the magazine continues to not move at all when the release button is pressed. You must grab the end of the magazine and pull the mag. The mag also cannot be inserted into the mag well without it hitting a stop point half way up the magazine. While holding the gun in the right hand and while holding the mag on the end with the left hand you must push the end of the magazine away from you for the mag to slide in without catching. I must admit that until now I have only shot with only one brand of .22 lr. They are ones from Walmart that come in a 225 count box and are 36 gr. hollow points purchased at the beginning of the year and kept in a climate controlled safe room. But that does not explain why the supplied magazines do not eject or catch when inserting it into the mag well or not chamber a round when the bolt is released and why a round fails to fire when the firing pin strikes the round. I may have to send it in for a tuneup.

I'm really liking this pistol so far. I had a 22/45 for a while and liked it a lot--it was very accurate, reliable, and easy to shoot but I didn't like the cheap-feeling plastic frame or the non-replaceable grip panels that were on the model I had. This pistol is a great improvement. Sure, it's more expensive, but it's definitely a better pistol. The stainless MKIII Target feels solid and has nice weight to it. Upon getting the gun home I cleaned the pistol, then removed the magazine safety and replaced it with an aftermarket hammer bushing so the magazines drop free and the mag safety is gone. I also removed the loaded chamber indicator and replaced it with a stainless plug. I just got home from the range where I shot 700 rounds of 22LR. 200 Federal Auto Match and some CCI Mini-Mags, and then a 500 round brick of cheap Geco semi auto with solid lead bullets. All the ammo worked well. In the 700 rounds I had a few failures to feed and extract, but when shooting that quantity of 22 rimfire ammo there will always be a few. I would estimate about a 1.5% failure rate while breaking the pistol in. I cleaned the pistol again and it wasn't especially dirty given the number of low-quality rounds I shot. I really like this 22 pistol and it seems like it will last a long time. My intention is to put the gun through its paces in the coming days and am excited to see how it performs. Highly recommended so far as the quality is great. The trigger could use some work, though. It is light but spongy with some take-up. The reset isn't all that obvious either, but got better as I shot it. I'm going to polish the hammer and sear and some of the other internals where there is metal on metal contact and then everything will be tops. Some Volquartsen parts would probably do well too. Lastly, I will probably put a fiber optic front sight on it. Awesome 22 target pistol!

Awesome 22! Shoots well! Put a couple hundred rounds through it...not one failure. Magazines could go in a little easier though...sometimes you have to wiggle them a bit, but not a real problem. It's nice and solid...seems to have more metal to it than cheaper Rugers. Looks great too. I definitely recommend this one, especially for the price!! Buds rocked on this one!!

Bought this after my S&W 22A-1 frame two-pieced itself. This one is solid metal and shoots like a dream. It's very accurate and I have no complaints about anything with this unit. I did add a HiViz front sight to it but that's my preference.

Excellent experience with BudsGunShop.com. Gun arrived at my FFL in exactly 7 days. Finally had my first day with the Mk III in the mountains of Colorado @ 10,000+ ft elevation above Breckenridge. Snow flying and sub freezing temperatures. Wonderful handgun! Shoots like a charm and deadly accurate. Very reliable. Just keeps on shooting, Only issue was loading the magazines with cold hands/fingers. Slowly got the hang of it. The craftsmanship on this Ruger firearm is superb. Ruger has created a masterpiece with the stainless Mark III. See that the MK III SS is currently out of stock. Not surprised. Glad I picked it up when I did. If you want a superb 22LR auto pistol that will last for a lifetime, you should consider this one. An heirloom.

First off, Buds shipped quickly and had the gun to my FFL within a week. Transaction was great. Buds had the best price on the Internet...at least the best that I could find. The Firearm is VERY solid. Stainless steel top to bottom, excluding the grips (which I found out were not resistant to Break Free Power Blast Cleaning Solvent). The gun shoots VERY accurately. From a bench rest, I was able to punch out the bullseye of a target at 7 yards. The guy in the bay next to me asked if I shoot competitively! Sighting in the guy was easy, and the disassembly is relatively easy if you have a non-marring mallet. There are three issues with the gun that prevent me from giving it 5 stars. The first is that it doesn't like hollow-point ammo. It will catch at the bottom of the feed ramp and put a little smile cut on the nose of the bullet. This occurs probably once or twice a magazie with hollows. Round nose feeds without single problem after over one thousand round-nose rounds fired. The second issue may not be with the gun at all, but rather with the ammunition I used - I'll let the reader determine that for themselves. I shot 400+ rounds of Remington Thunderbolt round nose ammo, and noticed accuracy deteriorated significantly as I approached 500 rounds fired. When I went to clean the gun later that day, the cleaning rod couldn't get all the way through the barrel! Turns out there was significant lead fouling in the barrel, and this required 3+ hours of cleaning to get MOST of the lead out. I was shooting pretty quickly, and maybe the barrel was too hot for lead bullets, but I had not experienced this before. Now I shoot copper plated ammo, and haven't had a problem since. Lastly, the front sight came loose during a firing session. It could have been a problem had I lost the little screw, but luckily I noticed it was loose prior to it falling off. Cleaned it, put some blue threadlock on it, and it's been solid ever since. Even with all these issues, this gun is my first or second favorite gun.

I purchased this a month ago and finally had the chance to take it to the range today. I really liked these little 22 pistols and wanted to get one for quite some time. After shooting it I now know why I was so attracted to it. Out of the box it shot 2 inches to the left but I can't hold that against it since it has both elevation and windage adjustments right on the rear sight. Simply turn the screw and it adjusts where you need it to. The magazines were ok, I just wished they had made them to hold 30 rounds. The little lever on the side of them makes it really easy to load them so it isn't that big of a deal to have limited rounds. The action is really good and strong. I shot about 200 rounds and had no misfires with only 1 feed problem. I attribute that to not properly lubricating and cleaning prior to shooting. I shot Remington gold hollow points. The look is amazing. It is heavy with the target barrel and recoil is not an issue. I shot my 45 most of the day and this was a good break from the recoil. It comes with a rail for scope mounting as well as a padlock for the chamber. I haven't taken it apart to clean properly but I hear it can be tricky. I will try that later next week. If you are looking for a nice target shooting 22 to plink with this is a blast. It also works well to help teach trigger control, grip and general shooting techniques for new shooters. I plan on taking my kids out this summer and letting them try it out. If you get this you won't be disappointed. It is a true classic and a blast to shoot. As usual, Buds was on their game and shipped fast.

I got this a few months ago and have put 200 rounds through. Very nice! No feeding problems and it shoots very accurately - well, as accurately as I can anyway. The only thing holding me back on the rating is the reassembly after cleaning. Disassembly and cleaning was fine. But I could not get it back together. I re-read the manual carefully and watched several youtube videos on reasssembling this handgun. I still couldn't get it. Went to my FFL. The first guy swore it off. But there was another one that was willing to do it, but not with me watching - too concerned he would have difficulty with it and didn't want to be embarrassed. They advised that I not disassemble it for cleaning but instead just run a cleaning snake from the breach out the barrel. They indicated this should be fine given the durability of this gun. This seems to work fine so far, but I really believe in a thorough cleaning after each trip to the range so I'm a little uncomfortable with this approach. If it wasn't so difficult to reassemble, I would definitely give this 5 stars.

Amazing! If you are in the market for a semi-auto 22 then stop contiplating the others and grab this. In stainless, it looks so good you want to case it and leave it in the safe. I take it out EVERY time I go to the range and it looks as good as the day i got it.

I just purchased this from buds and could not be happier with it. Went to the range today and fired 500+ rounds and not one single issue, every single round went down range and that was with the bulk Federal Hollow points from wally world. You cannot go wrong with this pistol.
