Pretty cool revolver. DA trigger is nice and soft. The wood grips will probably get replaced, probably with the Hogue rubber grips that most 686 revolvers com with standard. Increased sight picture makes this pistol accurate at greater distances. Too heavy to be a range gun, like lifting a dumbell, but I can blow off 30-35 rounds before the weight starts to interfere with accuracy. The knuckle of the middle finger gets banged up some by recoil transmitted through the trigger guard. Expect the rubber grips to fix this. In the meantime I can wear gloves with some padding on the knuckles. I am not a hunter but I imagine one could hunt with this. The range where I shoot is only 50 feet long but I can put all 7 rounds in a 6 inch circle at 50 feet. Better marksmen will improve on this. Probably not a carry gun. Both size and weight would be unwieldy. I think I will keep it in a soft canvas case and not look for a holster. Pull it out every once in a while. Makes a real statement at the range. As expected, this pistol is solid, put together with care.

What a beautiful pistol, typical of most S&W revolver offerings. Love the unfluted cylinder and full underlug. Grip is very comfortable although I could do without the gaudy lettering on it. I haven’t shot it yet but I expect it to be very accurate like my other S&W revolvers. Action is smoother than any Ruger revolver I own, which is typical. One thing I am disappointed in is the stinking lock on the gun. I don’t think it affects anything with the smoothness of the action or the trigger pull but I’d still prefer it not be there at all.

Never had a Smith, without a trigger job, shoot this accurate. Forced to change grips. Too bad; loved the feel & look of the factory ones. Probably just my shooting style but, typical of all revolvers, my middle finger knuckle gets a work out on the trigger guard with hot loads. Grips are so personal taste oriented; would never count off stars for what a factory chooses. 7" barrel gives excellent balance & recoil is as minimal as can be expected. The only negatives, if I force myself, is that the cylinder chambers are not recessed. Maybe there is a reason in machining since the rims of the seven rounds nearly touch. Brushed finishes on barrel & frame do not match. None of which are an issue with me. Very satisfied.

Love this revolver. First trip to range with it. Very accurate. Weight of the 7" bbl keeps recoil low. Action gets smoother with each cleaning & oiling. Only problem I have is finding a holster to fit the 7" barrel. I would buy this gun again.

Very nice fire arm. This 7" barrel is great to tame a full magnum load. Sweet shooter here. I did put on Packmayr grips that cover the backstrap this also helps with heavy loads. As per, Buds is great too!

No issues with it functioning per se, but there are several items I found to be lacking: First off, while I didn\'t expect it to be highly polished, the overall finish is less than what I would expect from S&W - like they skipped the final polishing step, leaving an \"undone\" kind of look. Next, the double-action trigger is extremely heavy and won\'t register on my Lyman scale (which max\'s out at 12 lb.) If you want to shoot this DA, you\'ll want to have the trigger pull addressed. And finally, it comes with a 0.230\" front sight - which may be fine if you plan on shooting high velocity loads at longer distances. But if you to shoot at close range - i.e. bowling pin, steel, etc. - with heavier, slower bullets, you\'ll run out of rear sight travel before you can get the point-of-impact to match the sights. This would be easy enough to handle if the revolver incorporated S&W\'s replaceable front blade system, but it uses the old style pinned front sight. To replace the blade, you\'ll need to buy a taller front blade and then have it drilled to match the sight base hole location on your particular revolver. Sights and trigger can be addressed and the finish is a subjective thing (and may not be important to you). I just expected better out of a revolver in this price range. Service by Bud\'s, as usual, was great.
