This is the best varmint rifle I have. It packs a bunch. Would recommend this rifle to anyone. Fun to shoot.

As with most Savage rifles, this one is accurate and suits my purpose for buying it. I use it for pest control, varmints and the occasional squirrel hunt.

Fast shipping. Will continue to do business with Buds. This gun is the definition of a tack driver. Can’t beat it for the price.

For the money it is a good looking rimfire. The stock looks good, nothing like one reviewers "particleboard" comment. Good even grain, matte finish and good checkering. Finish is what to be expected for a rifle of this cost. The action is very stiff but has improved with a little lube and will get better with some more time for break-in. I only tried 20 gr Hornady's to sight in the scope but was impressed with accuracy after sight in and will try some on hand Remington 17 grainers soon to see if this rifle likes them (along with a few more brands and bullet weights down the road). Overall, I am glad I puller the trigger on this purchase and look forward to experimenting with different loads. its always fun to get trigger time.

Decent fit and finish a wooden stocked rifle just feels like better quality! I put 25 rounds through it sighting it in and grouping I shot 2 - 5 shot groups at 50 yards and they were both under an inch. Savage is usually good about accuracy. Only tried the one 20 grain hornadys ammo so far though. The bolt is a bit stiff, but also was on my 93 22lr and over time has smoothed up nicely which I believe will be the same with this rifle. Check all your bolts for tightness when you receive a new rifle that is the first thing I did and found the bolts that bed the action into the stock quite loose. And it caused the barrel to touch the stock so it wasn't free floated. After tightening I could easily run a dollar bill down the barrel channel though. I really like the rifle, like savages inherent accuracy and see no reason to spend more money on others. Buds was great as well good price and fast and free shipping! Thumbs up!

Great transaction as always from Buds. This is a mediocre rifle at best. Accuracy just OK. the stock looks and feels like it was made from particle board. The magazine is finicky. Action feels cheap and rough. I do like the accutrigger. Save your money and get something better

Great gun. Only complaint is I wish it came with open sights. Wood stock looks nice. Absolute tack driver with a decent scope though. I'm a member of Team Buds and it's worth every penny. Gun was at my FFL within two days of ordering. This is for sure the nicest $250 gun I've ever bought.

This was my second purchase from Buds Guns and I must say that it went well as I expected it to go. Other than a minor blemish on the bottom of the stock by the grip, which was something I could live with, the rifle overall was in fantastic shape. The blemish was probably a result of the manufacturing/assembly process. The Buds price could not be beat!!! Now I can't wait for the 10 days to expire so that I can give it a good breaking in at the range!!

Love this gun. Outshoots rifles that cost 2 and 3 times as much. Probably the best gun I have ever bought for the money.

Great Cheap, accurate gun. Wood stock is kinda hokey, but for 250.00, what do you expect? Great action, smooth feed.

This is a good rifle. The shooting performance is amazing. It's very light weight and is comfortable on the hands. Working the bolt requires some knowledge how the magazine is held into the rifle. Once the magazine is clipped in, the locking mechanism will allow the bolt to freely load rounds into the chamber. However, I had my front hand supporting the rifle underneath the magazine which would make it not feed correctly. Basically, the magazine is not completely tight and has some play. Once I figured this out, I didn't have any problems, just a quirk of the rifle. I'd recommend this rifle to anyone who loves accuracy.

Just received my new HMR. Couldn't be happier. If you're looking at the non-scoped version, I highly recommend purchasing the scoped combo (item #96222). THE GOOD: As the previous reviewer noted, the factory scope on this rifle is NICE! I normally mount either Leupold or Nikon Prostaff/Buckmaster 3x9 scopes on all my hunting rifles and expected to replace the factory scope on this one. I ordered one rifle with the scope and one without, thinking I would give the scoped one to my father and keep the other. The 3x9 40mm factory BUSHNELL scope that came with it surprised the hell out of me. No joke, the quality is ten times better than any other Bushnell I've ever seen (had a few factory Bushnells that came on .22 plinkers back in the day that were just awful). Don't let the brand name fool you. This is actually a good quality scope...with great eye relief for those of us who don't want to put our retina right on the lens. Can't hype it enough...for the extra $35, it's worth every penny and I promise you won't be disappointed. You'd drop at least $120+ on a similar quality scope. No kidding, my FFL was blown away and jotted down the model # of the scope so he could buy one. And the 3x9 is more than enough for HMR range. Also, the accutrigger is flawless. Coupled with the bull barrel, it makes this rifle a tack driver, even past 100 yards. I feel like you could shoot flies with this thing. THE BAD: Not to be completely biased while still in the honeymoon phase...there are only two drawbacks I can find with this rifle. One is the weight (but hey, it's a bull barrel...so I knew going in it would be a little on the heavy side) which actually helps contribute to the overall accuracy of the rifle. The other "problem" is the action. On both rifles I purchased, it's pretty stiff out of the box. Much more so than any other savage rifles I own (I've had 5 or 6). I expect the actions will loosen up after they've had a few hundred rounds through them, but so far it's like shifting gears with no clutch. Also, it's completely opposite of the first reviewer's comment, but the magazines on each rifle I received were also very tight (i.e, you can pull the release but the mag won't fall out on its own, you have to forcibly remove it). But overall, for under $300 bucks you get an EXCELLENT rifle with a surprisingly good scope. I'm shocked by the overall build quality. Great value! And Bud's was great as usual.
