The purchase of this firearm via Bud's gun shop was as smooth as can possibly be imagined and delivery time has exceeded the speed with which other vendors ship similar products. I've purchased several products from Bud's and will continue to do so. I compare prices each time INCLUDING SHIPPING and Bud's beat's them every time. I "grew up" in the world of handguns using a highly customized and action tuned S&W Model 10 for my patrol duties back in the 80's and 90's and as a result of that revolvers have held a special place in my appreciation of guns. It was with this mindset that I purchased a S&W M629 6RD 44MAG/44SP 5" from Buds. It's a beautiful Classic, fit and finish are as close to perfect as humans can make it. The trigger is smooth and predictable with a tiny "snick" just before ignition. It's very accurate but the recoil will have most people looking for new grips to extend their shooting sessions. On my first range day with the Classic, I was shooting Fiocchi 44 Rem Mag 200 Grain Hornady XTP JHPs and after a box had been consumed, I moved on to the other guns that I brought. The original grips are beautiful and well made but I remember laughing out loud while watching one of the youtube gun cognoscenti flapping his hands after a couple of cylinders of good .44 ammo was fired at the range. I enjoy shooting this Classic especially .44 cal Specials but will be researching methods, beside grips, for mitigating the felt recoil with full-house ammo loads.

First of all I CANNOT say enough about how good Buds is when it comes to service, delivery and support. EVERY purchase I've made through Buds has been great and this S&W 629 is no exception. Like always, delivery was within 4 days to my local FFL dealer. The Model 629 was just what I was looking for, a quality big bore handgun with great balance and a sweet trigger at the BEST price. I have not taken it to the range yet but am sure it will shoot as good as it looks Thanks Bud's for another great job!!!

The first gun sent to the FFL appeared to be used; there were wear marks in the cylinders, heavy powder residue, and quite a few scratches on the gun. The FFL even commented to me on the condition of the gun as I was inspecting it, so this wasn't just me being a picky customer. I refused the transfer and Buds shipped a new gun, but only after giving me bad info that the new would be shipped once the refused gun was in transit. The second gun I received was much better, and appeared to have only been test fired (and not cleaned, but I read online that is typical for S&W?). A quick clean and polish and it shines like new - no issues to report. The gun gets 5 stars, as it performs as expected and looks great. In the end I did not get my gun on the date expected, as the refused gun had to be received by them before they shipped the new (not what I was told when I spoke with customer service the day I refused the transfer). My suggestion is to scrutinize your gun and ensure you are happy with it, and if not try and work with Bud's to expedite the return/exchange process. Bud's return process needs improvement, as I waited a week from sending the old gun back to getting the new. When I realized I would not have the gun before Thanksgiving holiday, I asked them to expedite (overnight) ship to the FFL and they refused. In my opinion they shipped the first gun in poor/used condition so they could have done more to make the customer happy. Time from order to receiving an acceptable transfer was 19 days.

This 629 with a 5 inch barrel is beautifully balanced and handles recoil like a dream. The double action is long but smooth. The single action in short and crisp. I've fired several boxes of full load 44 magnum without a problem. This handgun groups well and the custom grips are an improvement over original wood grips

As usual, Bud's is prompt, courteous, and a pleasure to deal with. The entire process is simple and my pistol arrived in good shape. What can I say about a Smith and Wesson 629 Classic that has not already been said?! I have always wanted a 44 mag so I finally pulled the proverbial trigger and got one. What a blast to shoot!! My son and I tore up targets at 30 feet right out of the box with Hornady 200gr 44 special. Then we dropped in some Hornady 200gr 44 mag. What a huge difference and you better hang on, but it is manageable and SO MUCH FUN to shoot!! I am a retired Marine CWO and spent a summer on the USMC pistol team so I have spent some time shooting. Cleaning weapons was not my favorite activity back then and is still not on my good times list today. I recently switched to Lucas oil products though and they work well. Lucas Oil CLP, a good nylon brush, a rod, some patches, and this weapon was a breeze to clean too. Thanks!!
