Bought this gem for my wife as a "bedroom/car" gun, as well as occasional carry. This is the ideal lightweight, no bells-&-whistles defense revolver - just what she wanted, with shrouded hammer and no safeties/mag release/other buttons to fuss with in a crisis. We've put 100+ rounds through it so far out to 25 yds, and she loves it. So do I. It does exactly what it's designed for, and it does it well. Yes, the trigger takes some getting used to, but if you're going for the 442 in the dark or with an imminent threat, you surely don't want a hair trigger.

Bud's service was great as always and I had no problem picking this snubby up from my FFL. The first shots fired were .38 reloads (not +P) at 50yds (yes, 50) as I could not get to my pistol range due to the snow and weather. Shooting off-hand at a steel plate approx 14x16in, I was in fact able to connect. Don't have any doubts on the accuracy of these little guys. My only gripe would be that the stock trigger is quite a bear, especially on initial take up. Replacing the factory springs with some Wilson Combat trigger kit springs did wonders, even with very slight polishing on the rebound slide. The other interesting thing was the amount of torque on the screws of the side plate. Even with the proper gunsmithing screwdrivers I ended up messing up 2 of the 3 heads. I called S&W to explain what had happened and asked why the were so torqued. The rep insisted that there was no reason to ever open the side plate other than to modify the internals (which is what I had told him I had done to begin with). When I asked about purchasing some new screws, he said it would be no problem to send me out some new ones free of charge. There's also a plethora of holsters and styles to choose from so do your homework and find what works best for you.

I received my 442 5 days ago. I have run about 50 rounds through it so far. Even with +P ammo it is has (to me) a lite recoil. The 442 will be my EDC after I fire another 50 or so rounds downrange. My EDC firearm now is a Taurus 85UL that I also got from Bud's. I like the black finish on the 442. I had even ordered the 642 first and changed the order to the black 442. To sum up, It's lite weight makes it a joy to carry. It has the fit and finish that one expects form Smith. And it just heavy enough to not rip your hand off when shooting +P ammo. What more can I say, "It's a Smith & Wesson Revolver"!!! i

If you carry concealed you need this gun. It's accurate and not bad recoil even with the +p ammo. took it out to the range and shot 50 spl and 20 +p no problems. love it
