Gun received in a timely manner. The finish on this gun is very unlike S&W. The trigger looks like a second hand part and the general finish was totally dissaponting. After paying a prety amount I am not a happy S&W customer anymore. I own a 686 and the quality in that gun finish in that gun is outstanding. A 10 on any scale while the finish on my new 617 is more like a4 or 5.

I ordered this revolver on Wednesday last week, and received it on Friday ( Montana to Florida), and I am not a Team Buds member - incredible service! : ) Gun came with 1 very small nick on the front sight base - punch must have slipped during the install, no real problem. The trigger pull - always a concern with rimfire revolvers - was less stiff than what I expected. Still, main and rebound springs were swapped out, and innards lubed, and now I have a relatively smooth ~8lb trigger, making this gun a real pleasure to shoot without hurting its reliability. If you are considering a full size 22lr revolver, just "give up" (even at Buds awesome price it's still quite expensive) and get the 617, or you'll always feel like you've compromised.

Out of the box it fired 7 out of 10 shots. after about 50 rounds, the double action locked up completely. Using Federal 22LR brand new ammo. I am going to try to contact customer service regarding this. Not happy with performance so far.

This is probably one of the most expensive 22LR guns you can buy but its one of my favorite handguns and one of my favorite revolvers. Something about a good Smith revolver plus fairly cheap ammo makes me really happy. I have taken mine to the range four times and put roughly 300 rounds each visit. I went ahead and installed a fiber optic front sight which is really nice as well. Take the time to save for it and you wont be disapointed.

I got a great one! No tooling marks, sights aligned, cylinder indexed correctly everything was perfect on this one. Accurate too! Love it.

Since I'm closing-in on retirement, I wanted a high quality .22LR revolver so I can shoot more and save money on ammo. I researched everything out there and choosing the S&W 617 was a no-brainer. First of all, Bud's 90-Day Layaway works perfect for me. In NJ it takes a while to get purchase permits, so when I saw the 617 in stock I ordered it, put it on layaway and waited for the permits to go through. Once they did, I paid the balance and the revolver was at my FFL within 7 days. When I opened the box I was amazed at what a beautiful piece this is! Fit and finish are excellent. Lock-up is tight. Everything is lined-up perfectly. Nice balance. This is the ideal compliment to a 686. I wiped it down right there and gave it a little oil and took it into the range to get a feel for the gun. I loaded some CCI Mini-mags, sent the target out at 10 yards and wow! First shot was a dead-center bulls-eye! This gun shoots way better than I can--nice tight groupings for the rest of the session. Only change I'm going to make is a set of Altamont rosewood grips that I have on order. If you want a .22LR revolver that will last several lifetimes, make an investment in a 617 and you'll never be sorry!
