As with else it arrived promptly, finish and fit was as expected but I think S&W needs to work on their triggers again DA is horrendous .Other than that no complaints....

Always a good experience with buds. Best prices and fast shipping. As for the 617, it’s a beauty. Thanks buds!

This has always been a dream gun for me. Now that I have it, I only wish I'd gotten it sooner. The trigger was in double action is nice and smooth with a clean break. Single action is very nice. I've only shot 250 rounds through it of CCI stinger, SGB, and SV. It shoots all equally accurate. I'll now be saving up for a 6" version. Definitely worth the cost. This revolver should last a lifetime.

Processing time was slow, shipping was fast. Not very happy with the sights. The brushed finish is ok. The finish quality is not like my model 66. Smith and Wesson got cheap on the sights . For the price you pay for this model they could have fiber optic sights on it like their other models. Overall it\'s a nice handgun.

I went to the range the next day after receiving the gun (great service and price from Buds) and shot approximately 200 rounds. The gun is well built and solid. I found the DA trigger pull a bit heavy. I\'m sure it will lighten up after more use. After 200 rounds shooting mostly DA, it was nearly impossible to pull the trigger. It shot about two inches to the left out of the box. My only minor complaint is the weight. Its a heavy gun for the not so strong individual. I can\'t imagine attempting to shoot the 6 inch. I\'ve held other K frames in a .22 and .38 and those are much lighter. The handle and feel was ideal for my medium size hands. I did feel a bit of powder debris on my face after shooting over 150 rounds. I wiped down the cylinder after every loading. In summary, if you want a solid gun that will easily last a few generations, then its a good gun. Smith should add a front sight in a different color to make it easier to aim and provide a tool to adjust the back site.

Re: Smith & Wesson Model 617-6, 4" barrel. Having now owned this S&W Model 617-6 for about a year and having fired an estimated 2500 rounds I give this revolver a very high grade and would highly recommend it. Comparing it to 4 older S&W .22 caliber revolvers dating from the 1940's, 1950's, 1960's, and the 1970's this newer Model 617-6 is every bit as good and in some ways better. It's better in that the chambers are slightly bigger. The older S&W .22 caliber chambers would become inconveniently tight after about 50 rounds whereas this new Model 617-6 can easily go 200 or more rounds before the chamber start to get tight from being dirty. Overall the fit and finish is very good. After getting the trigger broken-in the trigger/trigger pull is very good. It appears to shoot reliably accurately. I have no issues with this revolver. Although I have not tried the 6" barrel I suspect it might be a bit front heavy and not balance as well as the 4' barrel but that's just supposition. The factory sights are excellent. Some people complain about the rubber grips not being as attractive as wood grips but, at least for me, they are very comfortable and function well. Some people complain about the internal safety (internal lock) not being necessary or not being aesthetically pleasing but I don't mind it as I'm not looking at it while I'm shooting, I don't use it, and it's never caused a problem for me. Another advantage of this Model 617-6 over older S&W .22 caliber revolvers is the top strap is drilled and tapped and easily accepts a mount for optics. Even though the standard factory sights are excellent my older eyes prefer the infinite focus of a red-dot optic. I use a Raptor Engineering mount for a Burris Fastfire III optic. I highly recommend the Raptor Engineering mount for S&W revolvers which I have used on both this revolver (K-frame) and a Model 686 (L-frame) and I am about to try one on a N-frame. The Raptor Engineering mount is very low profile, well-made, comes with all hardware, and is reasonably priced.
