Received rifle in perfect condition. Was surprised that it was in a padded case. Workmanship is outstanding. Component fit is perfect and tight. Action/stock fit is like it has been glass bedded.

The M1A rifle was a rifle I had long wanted to purchase, and after much time, I purchased it as a birthday present to myself. Unfortunately, I was severely disappointed with the rifles performance right out of the box. The first trip to the range, after about 10-20 rounds, it started jamming in a way that it would fire, eject but then fail to feed the next round because the op rod and bolt were not closing all of the way, thus of course not firing the next round on the trigger pull. Once it started jamming, it basically wouldnt stop and turned into a single shot manual action rifle, eventually resulting in having to mortar the action to release the bolt and eject the cartridge. Every time it did this, the bolt was visibly not fully rotated in the locked position, and obviously the op rod was not all the way forward. Basically, a very bad situation if my life depended on the rifle. I took the rifle home, cleaned it and lubricated it with appropriate synthetic grease, NOT gun oil as per military spec. Took it to the range a 2nd time, same thing happened, and then a 3rd time as well. I knew It wasnt the ammunition, I was using Winchester 7.62x51 M80s 149g, which is appropriate for that rifle. I sent it into Springfield for a warranty claim, they re-head spaced the bolt, and since then, I havent had a malfunction with it, although I probably only put about 100 rounds through it since then, and I probably wont trust it until at least 500 rounds. Aside from that, it appears to be accurate, but I havent put that to the test properly.

Very nice rifle. I got the standard model because wanted a multipurpose gun. Would probably have gotten the match grade barrel if I could decide again because I find myself mostly shooting long distance now. Beautiful rifle though and no regrets. Buying from Buds was very easy and I was not disappointed by the service. Fully recommend both this rifle and Buds.

The rifle arrived packed well, and with a 10 round SA magazine, manual, assorted paperwork, cable lock, and a reproduction of a US Army Training Manual from 1963 . The rifle was dry and in need of lubrication. The metal components of the rifle are very nice, but the furniture was a little lacking . The top hand guard feels extremely cheap, and is made of very thin plastic. The front sling mount is stuck flush against the stock, I have to pry it to put the sling through it. The rear sling mount in the butt was loose and rattling around, due to the bottom screw on the butt pad being totally disengaged. I noticed this when I was able to pull the butt pad off the rifle without unscrewing anything. Very strange. I consider these issues to be minor, but not what one would hope for when shelling out $1300 for a rifle. More than one magazine would have been nice, and a 20 rounder at that. Or at least even a 5 round magazine would be more useful to me. At least I could hunt with it. A simple canvas sling would also have been appreciated. Granted, other options for an M1A type rifle include paying twice the price for a Fulton or LRB, so taking that into consideration, I am pleased with the SA.

I had been sitting on the fence concerning getting a good 7.62x51mm having shopped all the copies of renowned European designed rifles in this caliber (Can't stand a modified AR-15 (AR-10), didn't consider them at all because like the FAL it takes a design for a smaller caliber rifle and stretches it to the limits of design to accommodate the larger caliber , not good. The M1A took it from the other end by modifying a high caliber rifle and keeping a high caliber rifle) and I could never come to grips with plastic here and used parts there contained in the finished product of other rifles.. I almost bought a DSA which I feel is a very quality design and at about the same price range. The issue that sealed it for me was that this is the same weapon (with I am sure a few mods because the ATF can't allow autos in circulation of course) that was issued since 1956 and still sees action everyday in the middle east with our brave men and women there. This baby shoots like a dream and is accurate as hell and you can also get parts, magazines, stocks, rounds when needed, very hard to do with some other entries in this category. My son, who owns a Copy of the FAL, was trying to trade me after one magazine of rounds down range. This is a well made piece of North American Art and I love it ( Remember Garande, the designer of the original M1 for US Armed Forces in the 1930's, was a Canadian Immigrant to the US). I made the best choice possible after seeing how the other brands shoot. At the price point for this semi-auto, accurate rifle that can do just about anything and look good doing it without breaking the bank, not to say that for most of us working class Joe's and Jane's who are putting down a month's bring home pay, that this is where you should put your hard earned money to protect your family, practice the martial arts, and just in the horrible case one finds themselves and family in a situation where reliability, accuracy, durability, and out right fire power could make the critical difference between survival and not so much. All my family members are getting one for Christmas, no matter how stuck on Black rifles and AK's they are, it won't last. From what I understand there is a pretty good resale market for those rifles and a new primary is the bench mark of the day for my family and people.

Great gun. I have been looking for one of these for a year. I couldn't find one anywhere except 4 hour drives away and no guarantee they would be there when I got there. This is an awesome gun and figured some day I would get one. What made me decide to buy now rather than later is someday I might not be allowed to buy one so I bought it now. This gun is awesome. I have already put 40 rounds through it and just received it two days ago. Shipment came in when it was scheduled. I will purchase other guns from Buds in the future.

Pretty good rifle. Accurate, reliable, no problems. Only lasting complaint is that the top front stock is a little flimsy. It sits securely but when I push on it, it will flex inward. Haven't tried any cheap steel ammo. Cheap brass from PPU works fine. Stripper clip guide is a PAIN to remove, the pin that holds it in is a hollow C shape, if you use a punch that is too small it will just go inside the pin and make it expand. Most people recommend a 3/32 punch to remove it, but I found a 5/64 works MUCH better. I would recommend Springfield put in a solid pin to avoid problems, such as tools getting stuck inside the hollow C-shaped pin and breaking off (as I had happen and others I've read have had happen). I also put in a ProMag see-thru rail that didn't require any drilling and used the stripper clip guide and pre-drilled hole in the receiver to secure it. Leupold Scope went on the rail. I also replaced the front sling swivel with a Sadlak QD Post Assembly (built for the M1A/M14) which also required no drilling as it used the factory holes from the sling swivel. Rifle is much prettier now!

I received my M1A six days after I ordered it, and it was in perfect condition. I got the polymer black stock on the standard barrel/receiver model. It is light and sharp looking. The price was excellent, and soon after I bought it the price went up, and then it showed out of stock. I hope Bud's gets more in so you can get one also. They do have plenty of different models in stock, but whatever you do, listen to the prior raters and purchase one while they are still available and at a reasonable price. The M1A is surely the daddy of battle rifles. The Garand action is precise and solid, and it does not get any more reliable than this action. IMHO, before making your decision on which M1A model to choose, I would strongly consider a full length M1A over the Scout or SOCOM, as the .308 round is not designed as an "assault weapon" round, and a short barrel dramatically messes with the .308's accuracy. I realize that some military units have adopted the SOCOM style M1A's for some specific uses, but I personally think the SOCOM civilian model may be Springfield Armory's attempt at grabbing some customers in the M4 crowd. The M1A isn't designed for this use. Also, stay with the good ammo. Don't go cheap with laminated or lacquered casings. The casing finish on cheap casings can melt in the barrel, causing FTE's and jeopardizing the extractor. In the end, this is an investment. Treat is as such... Thanks again Bud's!

What can you say about Springfield Armory and the M1A that someone else hasn't already said? Item arrived at my FFL without issues. Perfect condition and as Always BUD'S Took care of me. If you are thinking about purchasing one of these fine weapons or you are not certain of BUD'S reputation Just look at the Feedback. Don't delay in getting one of these while you can. The OBAMA scare has already arrived early this year. Get it while you can before Prices skyrocket....

I was reluctant to spend near 1,500 big ones online, but wow. I ordered my M1A on a Wednesday night and picked it up from the local gun shop Friday afternoon. I definitely wont be looking anywhere else for my next gun purchase.

Great rifle. Wish it came with the 20 round mag, like in the picture, instead of the standard 10 round. The sights point exactly where the bullets go. Be careful when cleaning out the gas piston, though. I've only put about 40 rounds through it, but am looking forward to scoping it out soon!
