This is my new favorite. I added the Pearce grip extensions to the 9 round magazines. The 12 round mags add more purchase to the grip. The first time out was in low light conditions with other experienced shooters. The 3 inch barrel clears the holster quick, and is very accurate. The trigger breaks clean with manageable recoil. 40 plus years of handling firearms, this is the " go to " nightstand/ concealed/ duty/sidearm. Night sights, Bud's price and Springfield made this an easy pick. If you only had one handgun, everyone agreed you can't go wrong here.

Must Have Firearm!!! My first gun and boy is it a good one. Let me rewind for a sec and give two thumbs up to for their quick shipping and ultra smooth transaction. I love this gun I've had it for about 6 days now and put +200 rounds through it. Not a flinch! I plan on ordering a 9mm very soon. A very good plus is Springfield has a promo and is give 3 extra mags and a mag holder! I could go forever but I won't... Order and enjoy!

I need 10 stars for this review! No, I'm serious. I ordered this Springfield Subcompact on my lunch break. It took 10 minutes. Bud's shipped it to a gunshop that is 4 blocks from my house. The gun arrived in 24 hours. I bought this gun for personal protection. Very comfortable to carry. I haven't fired a handgun in 20 years. Took it to the range and was able to put 50 rounds on center of the torso target with no sweat (10 yards). The magazine springs and the slide release lever are VERY tight at first. They loosen with use. I would recommend a grip extender if you are going to use the shorter magazine. If you are hesitating on this gun, due to cost, or any other reason, DON'T. You wont regret it after you wear it and fire it. Way to go Springfield, and Way to go Bud's! ~Randy

I purchased the big brother .45 Xd then this model several months back. I finally had the opportunity to fire both of them and was very pleasently surprised. Both models performed flawlessly with cheapo ammo. This .40 has a pretty good recoil, nearly as much as the .45 however not so much as to be any bother. Both fit my smallish hands quite well. This compact .40 shot a nice tight group at 30 feet using small targets. I am definitely happy with both guns. The compact .40 sits on my night stand loaded with 185 G JHP and will be my CW when I get around to getting certified to carry. Of course the dealings with Buds was great as expected. These guns came nicely packaged, the speedloaders are excellent once you get used to using them. The overall quality is great regardless of where they were manufactured. I am very familiar with handguns from my military flying days and I would highly recommend either or, in my case, both of these weapons. If your looking for a pair of rockin kick butt guns then don't sneeze at the Springfield XDs in the .40 or .45...

I purchased one... then another... Then (well you get the picture) I absolutely love this gun. It fits my hand perfectly. It's got all kinds of "features" that make me wonder why no one else is including them (actually some have started to copy them). Including the striker status indicator, loaded chamber indicator that clearly let you know one is in the chamber, Easy No-Tool Disassembly, 1911 style Grip Safety. Dependable. Accurate. HIGH QUALITY Magazines. I've noticed some manufacturers using low quality magazines in their firearms. That is definitely not the case here. These function as good as my Wilson Combat's in my 1911's. The only thing I wish I could change about this gun is where it's made.... I believe in buying American first. Unfortantely, this one is Made in Croatia. Tom
