The Alaskan in an incredible weapon! (Certainly not for new shooters.) This weapon is a beast, 44oz of SOLID steel. The weight allows the weapon to soak up the recoil and make shooting it a real blast! Make no mistake, solid steel and all with a 2 ¼” barrel you KNOW you are shooting a 44 Magnum. The Hoag grips are very comfortable, as I have large hands. With the massive swing out cylinder reloading with speed loaders is very fluid. Given the short barrel and hefty recoil this Ruger is surprising accurate. If you’re looking for a carry gun, ….keep looking, if you’re looking for an incredible 44magnum revolver and back country gun this is your gun. Put 250 rounds through it in one session and I am more than pleased.

Pistol came to me in perfect condition. It has a plastic hard case, which I personally prefer over the foam filled type. It feels solid and well balanced in the hand and performed very well at the range. The short barrel produces a pretty good kick, and is very loud. LOL, it drew the interest of several people with the 1st few rounds I sent down range. The sights on it are ok, but I don't care for the solid black front blade, so bought a Williams Fire sight for the rear and a Hi Viz sight for the front to help define the sight picture. It'll take some drilling to install the front sight, so I haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm very happy with this one.

Smooth easy deal, great shooter either full blown 44 MAGs or specials, thanks Buds!

This is great little 44 magnum. Its extremely well-balanced, even with hot Garrett Hammerhead loads-- very controllable recoil-- With 44 special this revolver is spot-on accurate with zero recoil-- I was torn between this and the 454 Casull, and finally decided on the 44 because of the availability of ammo and my ability to reload, giving myself more range time for accuracy Either would be great--

Buds did a great job getting the gun to me fast and customer service using the online chat was excellent. The process was extremely easy. The gun is beautiful and appears new, but it seems from my experience and that of some of the other commenters that Ruger does not know how to properly protect this gun when in storage or being shipped. While there were no scratches or metal shavings, there was a considerable amount of discoloration on the barrel of the gun around the tip and front sight which looks like rust. I have not been able to completely remove the discoloration with gun oil or solvent at this time. Also, the box that the gun comes in is pretty cheap compared to my Sig P226 as it is just hard plastic with no foam.

Got this one earlier this year for hiking in black bear country. Gun is beautiful, fit and finish superb, but very heavy. At the range I feared that this pistol would have the kickback of an improperly-fed piece of lumber going through a tablesaw. I was pleasantly surprised with the very manageable recoil, probably due to the weight and good balance. I put CT laser grips on it before we went out to bear country JIC. Never saw a bear, probably knew I was packin', ha... Anyway, very easy to conceal with sourdough pancake holster (BEST), felt confident and safe while hiking. Bud's is best!
