The Ruger Alaskan .44Mag is a gun that you would want to take lightly. Weighing in at about 44 ounces with a 2.5" barrel this revolver isn't for novice shooters. This revolver is perfect for shooters with large hands and who can take a punishing recoil. Ruger RedHawk Alaskans are among the few guns that can withstand some of the hottest loads. i.e. Buffalo Bore 340gr. P . Now on the days that you're not, ya know, hunting down BIG GAME, this revolver shoots great with just regular Wincherster White Box 230gr soft points. As far as using this weapon to carry, I wouldn't, but I am not stopping ya'll from doing it. Since this revolver is so heavy and the hogue grips are so big, the recoil isn't so bad. The reason I only gave it 4 stars was becuase there were a couple of knicks on it, but they buffed right out. Another good thing about the revolver is that it came from Buds and they are FAST with shipping. I purchased the revolver Wednesday (Sep. 12th) and it was here two days later on Friday (Sep. 14th).

The Alaskan in an incredible weapon! (Certainly not for new shooters.) This weapon is a beast, 44oz of SOLID steel. The weight allows the weapon to soak up the recoil and make shooting it a real blast! Make no mistake, solid steel and all with a 2 ¼” barrel you KNOW you are shooting a 44 Magnum. The Hoag grips are very comfortable, as I have large hands. With the massive swing out cylinder reloading with speed loaders is very fluid. Given the short barrel and hefty recoil this Ruger is surprising accurate. If you’re looking for a carry gun, ….keep looking, if you’re looking for an incredible 44magnum revolver and back country gun this is your gun. Put 250 rounds through it in one session and I am more than pleased.

Pistol came to me in perfect condition. It has a plastic hard case, which I personally prefer over the foam filled type. It feels solid and well balanced in the hand and performed very well at the range. The short barrel produces a pretty good kick, and is very loud. LOL, it drew the interest of several people with the 1st few rounds I sent down range. The sights on it are ok, but I don't care for the solid black front blade, so bought a Williams Fire sight for the rear and a Hi Viz sight for the front to help define the sight picture. It'll take some drilling to install the front sight, so I haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm very happy with this one.

This is great little 44 magnum. Its extremely well-balanced, even with hot Garrett Hammerhead loads-- very controllable recoil-- With 44 special this revolver is spot-on accurate with zero recoil-- I was torn between this and the 454 Casull, and finally decided on the 44 because of the availability of ammo and my ability to reload, giving myself more range time for accuracy Either would be great--
