I purchased this firearm from buds a few months ago with some concern over the quality issues. Well it seems that Remington has definitely gotten a handle on the quality issues. The firearm shoots very well, the action cycles smoothly, and there were no blemishes in any of the components. the only bad things I have to say about the rifle is that the factory sights are very hard to see, and the factory recoil pad may as well not be there. Both problems are easily rectified though with a limbs aver and xs ghost ring sights. All in all though I would definitely recommend this rifle to anyone looking for sheer knock down power.

I purchased this gun to hunt Deer in Ohio. I too was a bit apprehensive due to some rather bad reviews. Remington seems to have solved their manufacturing problems. This rifle functions well and the accuracy is hard to believe. With Remington factory 300 gr loads, Hornady 325 FTX hand loads or Honady 350 grain handloads it will consistently shoot around 1” at 100 yards. With some thrown together 420 grain home cast test loads it shot around 3” at 100 yards. I had heard these rifles were crazy accurate, but I thought it was exaggeration. Contrary to popular belief the 45-70 does not destroy much meat, you can almost eat up to the bullet hole. The only complaints I had were the rather rough trigger pull and the robust recoil. My neighbor whom is a gunsmith improved the trigger pull immensely within a few minutes by three strokes with a stone. He said it had a few burrs and all he did was remove them. Trigger pull dropped from a rough 6.5lb to a smooth 3.5lb. Recoil with the 300 grain factory loads was robust, with the mid range (1800 fps) 350gr handloads it was painfully brutal. Removing the factory recoil brick and replacing it with a soft Limbsaver pad made a huge difference. The 350 gr reloads still jump like crazy, but they are now comfortable and even fun to shoot. Buds service was excellent. The rifle is attractive, the action is smooth, it points well, swings well, with the few minor changes it is now excellent in all respects.

I was mire than a little apprehensive about ordering this gun given the mediocre feedback, but I must say I am very impressed with it. The fit and finish is exactly what I expected bandit cycles like many other Marlin lever actions I have used. It fed and extracted perfectly. I bought thus 45-70 to take on a buffalo hunt and am veryhapoy I did....great job again to buds guns on a smooth transaction and a continued happy customer!!!

Just went out and put a few rounds through my new marlington 1895, everything was good to go. The gun looked great when I got it, now I know it also shoots great.

All in all I'm pretty pleased with the rifle. Better looking than the picture. Right out of the box the trigger pull was 5.5 lbs which is OK for me I suppose since it will just be my brush gun. Feels and looks like a great rifle.
