This was my first purchase with Bud's and was a little shocked to find that the low price listed was not available with a credit card purchase, which is how most people do most purchasing on the internet. It was a "cash" price, but I was NOT sending that much cash in the mail. I had to do some other kind of payment (I forget the exact details) and it took a week for the payment to be processed, then a few more days to ship, then a week to reach me. I later found the exact same gun at a local shop for the same low price and realized I could have had it weeks sooner and not had to pay the FFL fee. The shopping and buying process should have been smoother and faster.
This gun is an incredible bargain, and a great way to get into the world of 1911 45 ACP. This gun can be a platform to upgrade and customize it to have whatever detail you like.
Like all others it was slathered in a shipping grease so I cleaned it thoroughly before the range trip. The gun shot 3 boxes of Winchester White box flawlessly, but was consistently left of the target center. I am a fairly experience shooter and knew it was the gun. After a sight adjustment and another range trip the gun shots right on target. I tend to shoot my targets int he 15-20 yard range. Im sure it would be near perfect at the 7 yard range that some other reviewers reference.
The gun was shipped with the newer rubber grips and they WAY nicer than the wood grips would have been. I would think that Buds could easily put up an updated photo to let the customer know what to expect.
As a right handed shooter I have no need for the large ambi thumbs safety and that will also likely be a future modification.
The trigger is smooth and light enough, but I find the edges to be a little sharp on my finger. I would think a design with a little bit more rounded edges would be more comfortable for extended shooting sessions, but with the price of ammo, who can really afford all day shooting anyway? Maybe some day I'll take a file or dremel tool to it to ease the sharpness a bit.
The mag that come with the gun is OK, but I have purchased an aftermarket one locally that I like better.
The parkerized finish is rather poor and already showing a few scuffs that probably wont come out, but that is not a huge deal for me. For the price of this gun, my expectations were realistic. I wanted a gun that worked great, with great features and looked pretty good. This is not a show piece.
I did add a couple of white dots on the sights using white finger nail polish (.99 value) and I am very happy with this gun. It is a little too heavy for a daily carry gun, but I have others for that.
All in all I am completely happy with this gun and have suggested it to all of my gun enthusiast friends.
