This review is for the Rem 308 5R Mil-spec rifle. The rifle is heavy enough to reduce recoil and light enough to shoot without a rest if hunting. I prefer the extra weight over the 6 lb. rifles for sale now. Great look and feel. Action is very smooth. I did break-in rounds with a 1/2 dozen different types of ammo, 150- 175 grs. and it just gets better and better. I really would have preferred to shoot more before this review but after about 80 rounds, last group was 1/2 inch group, 3 shots at 100 yards with Barnes 175 gr. precision match. I usually hunt reloads with nosler ballistic tips, 150 gr. so will be shooting them next at 100, 200, 300 yards. Great rifle, Bud's shipped quickly to my FFL who mounted my Leupold scope and I'm ready for the range or hunting.

I am pleased overall with my experience with this transaction. My REM 700 5-R S.S. 24" arrived with a minor scratch on the stock finish. Being as picky as I am I contacted Remington and they sent me a new stock. Never even tried asking Buds Guns for a replacement because I have heard so many good things about Remingtons warranty services. In the end, as long as customer service is proper, which in this case with Buds Guns and Remington, it was, I will use again. USA!

Ordered my firearm (Remington 700) online, received an email with all the details and a tracking number. I believe it shipped within a day and was received by a local FFL near my home on schedule. The whole transaction from start to receiving the gun was so easy I will making future purchases at Buds!

Awesome rifle out of the Box! I took my new Remington 700 5R 24in SS 308 out for the first time today for some break-in rounds. I shot two 5 round groups at 100 yards. Each shot was fired 3-5 minutes apart due to break-in cleaning between each round. Even with that being the case, I was able to produce a groups of .51 MOA and .73 MOA. The rifle is very well balanced and the action mounts firmly into the HS precision stock. The trigger however, is a little heavy. Overall, I am very happy with the results. I am so glad I chose the 5R.

4.5 stars, really.... Awesome platform for 308. The action and barrel alone are worth the price. I was getting ~1MOA with Hornady Steel Match during my break-in process, and dropped to 0.8MOA with Federal GM308M2 175gr. Changed out the trigger for a Timney 510 and immediately saw 0.5MOA groups with the same GM308M2 factory ammo. Took it out to the long range and got first-shot hits at 500, 600, and 750 yards (used Strelok Pro for doping). First shot at 1000yd kicked up dirt right near the target but I didn't have a spotter to verify hits after that. No doubt this rifle can perform at 1000yd. Only things holding this back from a perfect, out-of-the-box, factory rifle are: 1) the X-Mark trigger. I was able to get 0.8MOA with the factory trigger but I could definitely feel it affecting my accuracy just by how much I had to pull, even at the lowest setting. The trigger itself is decent - very minimal creep and breaks nicely - it's just heavy for precision work. 2) the particular H.S. stock it comes in doesn't have an easily modified buttpad. It's a very thin strip of rubber fixed on with epoxy; no mounting screws so you can't just swap it out. I wanted to increase the length of pull on mine so this was a frustration point for me. I've since gotten used to the stock though. All together this is a really great rifle, especially for a factory production firearm. Looking forward to seeing what it can do with handloads. Very happy with it and highly recommended for shooting 308.

I have bough more guns from Bud's than I care to remember. I always look to them first; best prices and great service. Have never had an issue. This is my second Remington 5R rifle...the first being in 300 wm. Accuracy is incredible for a box factory rifle. I have changed to McMillan stock and Timney trigger and I'm already getting consistent 1/2 moa groups...and I have not even bedded the stock yet. However, the HS stocks are good to go, I just prefer the McMillan. If you are looking for a near custom rifle with fantastic out of the box accuracy potential (as long as you do your part in shooting) then this is it right here. I have noticed a big difference in cleaning these 5R barrels vs Remington's standard cut rifling. There is quite a bit less fouling and they clean up faster. I have not chrono'd this one yet but will see how the speeds compare to my other Remington Varmint. I am expecting a little bit more velocity with the 5R. Loves the 175 gr bullets and shooting the 168's very well to. Can't go wrong with Buds or the 5R.
