This was my first Rock Island Armory purchase and let me say it won't be my last. Fit and finish exceeded my expectations for a sub-$450 1911. It shot great right out of the box and with over 300 rounds through it, I've experienced no failures, even with the sometimes sketchy reloads and cast lead bullets folks give me. It came with nice brand name magazines (to which I added a slam pad). Accuracy is very good and with a full size 1911 frame shooting 9mm, recoil is light. Now, why only four stars. My pistol came with a firing pin stop that I could not remove. I personally think they put a little too much finish on the slide and it got stuck. I sent it off to RIA prepaid and they fixed it, no problem. Now, it is a really great pistol and one I love to shoot. I wish I could give it 4.5 stars but that isn't an option. Anyway, I am quite satisfied and recommend this pistol.

Excellent gun. Don't let the reasonable price fool you, RIA makes quality stuff. Excellent trigger and reset, never a malfunction and a better shooter and more dependable than my Glock. This thing is a tank, and I'll never sell it. Thank you ria for quality guns at bargain prices.

Purchased this RIA in 9mm trying to fill out my collection of 1911 types. I would have preferred a Metro in this caliber but it wasn't available. I have a Metro in .45cal. and think it is super. The RI is not as nice as the Metro ( fit & finish ) but is good overall . If you're thinking of buying this pistol I would suggest that you go for the Metro Classic II in .45 cal,. I have found that there is no discernible difference In felt recoil between the two and the Metro is much more accurate than the RIA, not that this cant be remedied, but given the quality advantage and the feel ( comfort ) of the Metro ClassicII, I see no reason not to go for the higher quality pistol. Just my opinion, but it is a side by side comparison.

Great Gun Great Price .. Hasnt missed a Beat so far got about 500 Rounds thru it b4 winter said no more shooting.. The ambi safety isnt curved as much as other brands so you will have to alter your grips or change out the grip safety or live with it wanted to put a nice pair of checkered grips on it but i would have had to grind the wood down so i passed the giant billboard is kind of ugly but the newer ones dont have it .. for the price ya cant beat it

Have about 400 rounds down the pipe. My first observation is that the model shipped had the incredibly obnoxious billboard on the slide, so beware. Most listings on the market currently show a subdued slide, but mine was anything but. I am finding that the front sight post is a bit high, but your mileage may vary. The trigger pull seems very smooth with a subtle reset. The mag drop is a bit stiff, and hard to depress the release sufficiently without using your offhand. A fair number of machining marks still present. Ambidextrous release is stiff and difficult to manipulate if you have small hands like me. But I didn't like the ambi on my .45 Kimber, either. I'm basically now replacing most of the pins, springs, etc. with aftermarket products, as I'm not quite comfortable with the stock set up. But that's a personal taste thing. One issue I would attribute to the magazine spring is that I am now getting double feeds, 2 in the last 100 rounds fired. Probably a magazine issue, and I didn't isolate which magazine yet (focused on clearing the gun). I did not see this the first time I shot, so I'll keep watching on this. And you'll need to replace the grips. Aside from the billboard, I like this quite a lot! Bud's price is good.

Received the gun within a few days of order, fast shipping, experience with FFL was great, the gun looked great, fit and finish was excellent, gun was packed in a bag with grease, received on a Wed, field stripped and cleaned, took it to the range on Friday, out of 25 rounds of factory ammo, I had 20 FTE, took apart and cleaned again, with similar results of 25 rounds shot, 23 FTE, called CS, that experience was very good, they sent an email with a return label while I was on the line with them, however with a 3 week turnaround, I opted to order a Wilson Combat extractor instead, took to a gunsmith and he said that same thing that it was not normal for RIA to have a bad extractor, but did say this was as straight as an arrow and would to extract anything, all in all not good out of the box, but with the upgrade it is now a 5 and I would buy another RIA without hesitation
