Back in the 80's, when I was a young buck I lusted after the HK version of this rifle. I thought that it was it was the badest, most tactical cool thing around. Buying it now, almost 40 year later, it is maybe not so cool. Not to say it doesn't work well, it does. It is fairly accurate and cycles well. It is just 1980 technology. It weighs about as much as a boat anchor and cannot be easily scoped. Most of the time it lives in my gun safe. To much stuff that is more fun to pull out of it.

Heavy, battle rifle,2moa more or less with cheap surplus ammo.Easy to disassemble and clean, built like a tank.Hard hitting caliber.Made in the USA.Very affordable(surplus) magazines,a fraction of the cost of other 308 mags.Get one,you won't be disappointed, don't expect it to be a pretty show piece, this is ugly and built for hard use.No problems and eats any ammo.

She was filthy when I got her, 100rnds threw on day 1 with 4 FTE Field stripped and scrubbed away till she shined new again, after that 300rnds and no FTE federal, surplus, or reloads what so ever, she even runs steel cheap non coated monarch 308 with ease. Dumpped 20rnds in 4.8 seconds with out FTE, only complaint is the push pin holes not aligning up and causing me to really push and pull on the 1st pin to assemble/disassemble but its not bad enough for me to send it in for that long to ptr. Amazing purchase, fast shipping, thank you buds and ptr

I thought I was going to have to send mine back to the factory. Finally after about 200 rounds and about as many cleanings I'm able to run two twenty round clips through it without it jamming as long as I use Remington Core- loct or Russian steel cased ammo. CBC or any other ammo with case neck sealant basically turns it into a single shot after about 4 rounds. In the 1980's I had a H&K 91 and a H&K 93, both of which would shoot any ammo without jamming without break in. I like the look and feel of this rifle. I like the fit and finish and the way it shoots when it shoots. I like the cheap surplus magazines. I don't like the thought of people buying these and assuming they can be relied upon for self defense without extensive breaking in.

While I have only been able to function test it at limited range but it functioned perfectly with both military surplus and commercial ammo. I shot it next to a DS Arms FAL and a Springfield M1A. While both those rifle are very soft shooting, the PTR-91 GI's recoil was noticeably less. Overall I'm very impressed with the rifle. It's an exceptional value for the money.

The PTR is one Bad Ass rifle, hits hard and is fun to shoot. Bud's Gun Shop is one of the best on-line gun shops I have found. Since I've purchased this rifle, I've upgraded it with a HK claw mount & Ziess scope package. Awesome............

When you pick up CHECK YOUR BORE!!!, Got mine for Christmas 2014, Buds was crazy so I stupidly grabbed it an ran. Ended up in my gun safe until near Christmas 2015. I was doing some safe cleaning and gun wipedowns. Much to my shock , when I pulled the ptr out by the muzzle , the bore was quiet rusty. I was very upset but what to do after a year. I cleaned the hell out of the bore and hope it still works fine. But damn , a rifle that at the time of purchase wass near 1000.00, you would think ptr would spare some coating of the bore!. I don't blame Buds as I should have inspected the rifle better. But for a grand PTR line your crapping barrels or chroem coat them.

Ordered Sunday and it arrived Wednesday. Rifle came in perfect condition with plastic case, instruction manual, cable gun lock, 1surplus mag {HK 1970 stamped aluminum}in great condition. Arrived with manufacture date of 2/5/2016 with olive drab green furniture {pistol grip, hand guard, and stock all match and in great condition}, HK G3 S,E,F steel clipped lower parkerized matching the parkerizing on receiver and barrel. Barrel is tapered {not bull barrel} 5/8x24" barrel threading and a paddle magazine release. Sights are HK style front and rear drum 4 position sight with knob on side for adjusting windage. Was trying to decide on either PTR or Century C308 but did not like the fact that C308 has flip style rear sight and did not want a scope raill welded on top of receiver. The PTR91 GI in my opinion is one of the best deals in a .308 battle rifle with mags that can be had for under $4 a piece. This was an anniversary gift from my wife and I am glad I decided on PTR and Buds.

Once again Buds does not fail. Order rifle mailed in my Payment and received rifle three days later. Rifle comes in a plastic case already. I want a battle rifle that wouldn't break the bank and this PTR was in the price range. Even had the guys at the gun store fascinated over how beautiful the rifle is. Good job PTR and Good Job Buds

Hello, I am going to keep it short and to the point. I was a class 3 ffl for ten yrs, and got out of the business in 2012. Pros......fast processing and shipping, best price, I looked around read reviews etc like we all do, I got pricing around the holidays that was great, def best bang for the buck. I picked up my ptr GI today, The rifle is very nice. well oiled, the stock set is from fmp late 90s,looks like take offs from g3s. colors don't match but its ok, as a shooter to me. mag is a fmp from 65, in excellent cond. The cocking lever and bolt are stiff but I would expect that on a battle rifle, that is recoil operated, and a new one at that. The Rifle was dated 12 2014, which again is great meaning its new prod made in South Carolina. So far so good, I am looking forward to some range time this weekend. So kudos, to buds and to ptr for a well made product. Cons? None really,Dealer info needs to be updated but was a easy transfer, and John was a super nice guy. My only suggestion is making the web site more user friendly. its hard to get around and find certain things and is by far not a deal breaker, but this has nothing to do with the purchase or the product. Best A

An awesome rifle! I lucked out and got this for $674 (cash price) right before Christmas!!! Obviously, this price didn't last long. The rifle arrived clean, no rust (like some others were saying), and oiled. I followed the directions in the manual on how to "break in" the rifle and have had no issues. I don't care for the mag release on these rifles and I see that PTR now offers the newer rifles with a paddle release. Mag release button is kind of small and you have to let go of the pistol grip to drop the mag. Overall, I got a great buy on this rifle and shipping was fast. Thanks Bud's!

I think I got a lemon. :( The rifle will only shoot one or two rounds before 'light strike' failure. Have to drop the mag, cycle out the light struck round, continue. Tore the bolt assy down, cleaned, lubed 3 or 4 times. Tried 2 diff types of ammo. Through 80 rounds, never fired more than 4 rounds consecutively.

Ordered two of these rifles, Very impressed so far. No need for a special tool, rear sight can be adjusted with needle nose pliers. Great fit and finish, on one the rear sight is a bit stiff and painful to rotate between the different ranges. Placed order on Friday night buds had them in the store ready for pickup Tuesday morning. Buds had the best price by far, great people to deal with and a smooth process.

Bud's did a great job processing and mailing the firearm quick. Well made. The rifle had a good coat of protective oil on it. The GI model I bought has the cheaper green furniture. The stock has a soft plastic feel and the surface melted when some bore cleaner got on it so be careful. That's the only probem I've had with it. Two feed failures during the first 15 shots but PTR says to give it a break in period. I shot 100 times and no problems since the initial 15 shots. Looks like it's going to be a great rifle.

Just got mine today. no rust in mine, I ran a few patches threw it before I accepted the rifle. I put 100 rounds thru it with no issues with the rifle. I did have some with the mag (feeding), but it was brief. recoil was nothing, I read a bunch of cry babies were complaining about heavy recoil but they must be frail. This is a mans gun,,, you need to manhandle it takes a beating, GREAT rifle. buds did their part.

My rifle came with rust in the bore, however it cleaned up and no pitting was found. Took it out to the range and the rifle experienced many failures to feed. I was aware of the break in period but the FTFs seemed to be just too many. Tried different magazines too, same result. I sent PTR an email and the company owner called me back. He said he would email me a shipping label to send it back so it could be made right. I appreciate that, but I have never experienced so many problems with a firearm straight outta the box, and for that reason I will not be doing anymore business with PTR Industries. Buds was great though.

I picked up the PTR from my FFL and brought it home. The initial cleaning revealed a pitted and corroded bore - the patches came out reddish brown, completely saturated with rust. Updates to come as to how PTR resolves the issue. Perhaps I should have caught it prior to bringing it home.

Can't beat the buds guns price, and it was recently made. The buds guns service was Fantastic on their end not one complaint. When I hit the range I always get an interesting conversation thanks to the gun. This gun performs really well and the first forty rounds were fantastic. This was my first gun and it is really easy to manage. I am so happy it came with a hard case and gun lock, that made it easier on my end only came with one mag. but it was an HK plus they are like $3 each so its fine. Thank you buds for this opportunity and I will be sure to make my next purchase here. service: 5/5 gun: 4.5/5 accessories: 4.5/5 performance 5/5 overall:5/5

The rifle is excellent. Fit and finish is very good. Rifle came with an HK magazine and a plastic gun case. Cleaned the weapon. Very easy to take down and put back together. Took it out and put 160 rounds through it without a single hitch. Very accurate right out of the box. This weapon is a beast and well worth the it. Parts are easy to find since all surplus HK parts fit. Found surplus mags for $3.99.

Just opened my huge plastic gun case and my PTR looks great. Have not shot it yet but am looking forward to it especially since most of the reviews were positive. My only issue is having one magazine being included and trying to purchase more and not having any luck. Buds did a great job shipping but no luck in getting accessories.

Excellent rifle! Will fire/cycle any ammo you chose. It just keeps going. Built like a battle tank, this rifle will remain dependable for many years and many rounds. If I had to find one problem with this rifle, it could only be that it is very rough on the ejected brass. Makes it difficult to reload fired brass. If you aren't concerned with reloading though, let'er rip. this rifle is a blast to shoot!
