Rifle is awesome, dirty as hell when I got it, but works great.

Awesome rifle, in fact it's my favorite "mosin" to shoot. It is a bit heavy, but the length is a vast improvement over the standard 91/30. It's a rifle you can lug around with you out in the woods and really enjoy doing some open sight bolt action shooting. The ammo is super cheap too, so grab a 440rnd can and find a safe place to shoot and go to town. I would honestly give up both of my 91/30s before I got rid of this carbine.

The firearm it's self is a an inexpensive piece. Makes a good truck gun. Not pretty by all means, but the patina of the wood with all dings and dents is kind of cool. Like an ugly dog, if yours you find the beauty. Appears to be a safe firearm. Ran a few rounds with no issues. Wish I had a man Friday for such times though. Gun is what it is, very inexpensive for a useable tool like firearm.

I was quite surprised at the condition of the Type 53. The furniture was showing it's age, which I expected, but otherwise the rest of the firearm was in good to very good condition. Put two dozen rounds through it at the range last Saturday and it kept good 4" groupings at 20 yards and 6" groupings at 50 yards. Considering how old these guns are and how well it shot out of the box (Even with the cheap Tula ammo I fed it), it will go into rotation as one of my range rifles.

This was my first purchase from Bud's (March 2014) and I was very happy with my shopping experience. First off, shipping was prompt and communication from Bud's (in regards to tracking #, carrier etc) was excellent. The gun arrived in just 3 business days. The Type 53 itself arrived in expected condition - covered in cosmoline, and pretty greasy overall. The stock wasn't even close to the worst I've seen, but it did have it's fair share of dings and dents, however nothing major like cracks or deep gouges. You absolutely can't fault the product for these imperfections at all; they're to be expected when ordering an issued T53. The metal was in good condition upon first inspection, and - most importantly - the bore showed well upon un-boxing. Although quite dirty and caked in protective grease, the rifling was crisp and there wasn't any pitting or rust/oxidation in the bore. Nor was there any rust or degradation on the all the exterior metal surfaces. After cleaning, the bore is shiny and smooth, and the rifling looks very sharp and not worn at all. Overall, I was very satisfied with the bore quality. All other metal parts of the gun are in similar condition, with little wear to the finish, and no rust/oxidation or pitting. I would absolutely take the chance and order a Type 53 from Bud's. If the gun arrives in a condition you're unable to work with (assuming you're buying one to lightly restore & feel confident shooting time and time again), simply refuse transfer from your FFL and the gun goes back to Bud's - no questions asked! It doesn't get better than that!
