Walnut, steel and made in the USA. That's getting hard to find these days. This is the first new Marlin I have purchased in many years. I am very pleased with this rifle. I am a shooter and hunter and all my guns must earn there keep. This one functions shoots and looks great. I really like the 45/70 caliber. Very reloader friendly. Recoil is not bad at all if you shoot lower level loads. The lower level loads are still highly effective game getters. You have many options with this rifle/caliber combo. Most of all it's very fun.

This is the second gun I've purchased from Buds. Great service, prompt shipping and I got exactly what I ordered. I will continue to do business with them.

I have nothing but great things to say about the service from Bud\'s. The gun I ordered on Saturday was available for me to pick up on Wednesday. If this were a review of Bud\'s only, I\'d give them a 5. However, the gun I purchased had a scratch on the barrel and the inside of the receiver was so sharp I cut my finger. Remington may have come a long way since their Marlin take over but they still have a long way to go before they\'re up to JM quality. I have a 22\" 1895 (JM) and the differences are easily noticeable. The gun is being sold and I have already purchased a Henry All Weather in 45-70 as a guide gun replacement.

I give the rifle four stars (because of the lawyer safety) but my arthritic 75-year-old shoulder gets no stars at all. Would have loved this gun 30 years ago. So, it is a great little gun that I will not keep and shoot because of the recoil. Modern, full power, .45-70 ammo really packs a wallop in both directions.

Just what I wanted for hog hunting the woods around North/Central Texas. Short and manoeuvrable, not too heavy, and the recoil isn't bad at all. Quality control was perfect on mine.
