The rifle arrived in a cardboard box, with a styrofoam insert stabilizing the rifle. Included was the bolt, which was removed, as well as a manual and a cable lock. The 700 SPS is a very sturdy and well made rifle, and it is one of the nicer bolt action rifles I have owned in the past (Savage, Howa, Ruger). However, I believe that the styrofoam insert degraded to the point where it left a fine white dust on all the metal parts, and almost a stain of sorts on the stock that I have yet been unable to remove. It is not a huge concern personally, as the stock will be painted and eventually replaced, but I am curious how it left the manufacturer in that condition. To me, it was not such a severe problem that I would refuse shipment and send it back. However, I can see another person taking that course of action. The rifle itself is terrific, the condition it arrived in left something to be desired.

My 2nd one, since my Brother needs one. He was so impressed and shooting DIMES at 100 yards with mine, that I had to build one for him also. AWESOME !!! First thing I did was to tear it apart, put in a Timney Trigger to replace that RECALLED POS trigger. I put it in a Bell and Carlson M40 Stock (Green with Black Spider web), Mounted a Nightforce 20MOA Rail (Scope Mount Base) and topped it with a Nikon M 308 Scope with BDC for up to 800 yards, and a Harris Bipod. I was shooting sub MOA and Golf Balls were no challenge at 100 yards. So we scotch taped some dimes to our targets and proceeded to make holes in dimes. Sub MOA with 168 grain Federal Gold Medal Match's - MOA with Hornaday Whitetail 150 grain - 2 MOA with Federal "Bulk" 308 FMJ. I have both the 308 version and the 223 version amd they are both TACK DRIVERS / DIME SHOOTERS at 100 yards!!! I can't wait to stretch it out at the 600 yard range soon. A FANTASTIC Rifle for the price !!! A few add ons and it will be more accurate than most shooters. Mike - US Army Pistol Team 1974 -1977 - and I can still shoot Rifles too !!!

I am happy with this rifle. Was debating over getting the .223 but decided on this. I like the shorter tactical barrel. NIce and compact rifle that can reach out pretty far. Will most likely get rid of the rubber stock and replace it with a nice chassis.

AWESOME !!! Just got back from the range and the first 200 rounds through it. After adding a Timney Trigger, a Nikon M-308 BDC Scope, a Bell and Carlson Stock, and a bipod, I completely destroyed the Bullseye on my target at 100 yards. It took a few rounds to get it Zero'd, but after that I was impressed !!! I didn't know I still had it, shooting a rifle, as I am mainly a Pistol guy. I knew the trigger was recalled, but I wanted a competition trigger, so I bought it anyway. I can't wait to get it out on the 800 yard range. Mike - US Army Pistol Team 1974 -1977

This Remington 700 SPS Tactical 308 rifle is the most accurate gun I have. It can shoot 175 gr Federal Gold Medal Match (7.62 and 308) at 100 yards with 0.6" MOA, HSM 168 gr match with 0.7 MOA and many hunting bullets with 1.0" MOA. It is a little bit heavy, but the heavy 20" barrel and the original stock do the job. I plan to buy one more for 223, but Remington 700 Tactical is out of stock now (June 2014). Hope that it will back to stock again.
