This is a GREAT shotgun and the price was right! The compact design allows you to move thru narrow areas while keeping the weapon relatively level. This was exactly what I was looking for in a home defense weapon.

I owned one of these several decades ago under a slightly different name. I sold or traded it off and often wished I kept it because in many ways Winchester builds "a better" shotgun, mainly in using a rotating bolt that locks radially into the barrel for full-circumference strength. This newer model has kept the original bolt/barrel design I am happy to report. Overall the Super-X Defender is about as "bare-bones" as a pump-gun can be, and so much the better for it. It has everything it needs and nothing it "don't." With 18" barrel mounted, the gun is short and compact and well finished with a nice matte black surface and interesting red color inlays. With aluminum receiver and polymer stock, the gun is also light - very light which is nice. It uses a simply screw-cap to hold the barrel on similar to Remington's design, and so can accept magazine tube extensions, though with the 18" barrel an extension would likely on provide a single additional round of capacity. I like the slide release button on the left side of the trigger guard...a little easier to locate by feel over the blade designs on other guns. The action is glass smooth right out of the box, and will only get slicker with a box of shells. Trigger pull is crisp with zero creep before let-off, and the gun does disconnect the trigger during the pump cycle so no-slamfires, nor slamfire capability for those who desire that function. The gun had no problem handling a combination of Rio brand 00 Buck and 1-3/8 oz slugs, and hits to point of aim at 20 yards with no problem. As one can imagine, it does give the shoulder a pretty stout kick which is thankfully attenuated some by the padded butts stock. For around $200 this is a definitely buy!

I was disapointed in the overall quality. The \'synthetic furniture\' has a cheap plastic feel to it....thin and brittle...like it could be easily cracked, if banged around at all. Winchester brand and model painted on...again...cheaply done. On the other hand, for $250 and change: a pump shotgun is a pump shotgun. Likely a good bargain and as good as anything else. There\'s not much too them, regardless of the cost. For the pricetag, i rate this item as \'buy\' if you have a specific need. Were the pricetag even a dollar higher, i would say pass. No longer made in the USA(...since \'07 from memory.) DT

Rough pump action. Almost impossible to find a longer replacement barrel. Buy it only if you plan to use exclusively the one that comes with it.
