Well, this is my second one and I will tell you, none of the nastie things are true.
No, the stocks are not covered with shoe polish. Both of mine are nice but plain grained hard wood with a smooth finish.
Yes, the insides are full of machining oils. Spray brake cleaner takes care of that and when I replaced the ejector spring (both weapons), I rubbed everything down and lubed the needed parts as I put it back together. Both rifles are slick and reliable.
I could have spend more, a lot more, but with the Rossi, I know the insides and how everything works. I appreciate what is being done as I work the action. Greater satisfaction for me.
