Here's the brief; my rifle was produced in June of 2016 (purchased from Bud's in June 2017) so let me say these newer Marlins seem to be running a lot better than what they were selling after the Remington buyout. My wood to metal fit was pretty decent which was a pain point for a long time and the metal finish looked fine, no obvious blemishes. I will say the action was a little rough to work, after taking it down I noticed the edges were a little rough throughout, specifically the opening on the footplate, the channels cut into the bolt and a few spots on the lever that pass through the bolt. After a little file work (take your time and DO NOT use a power tool) the action smoothed out as nice as my 1994 vintage Marlin. At the range the gun was consistent (3rds almost touching) though I found that the point of impact was about 6" low at 50 yards even with the rear sight elevator maxed out. This isn't an issue for me since I had ordered a peep sight for it anyway but that's something to keep in mind. Overall this rifle is a blast (lol) the short barrel makes it handy and you get 6+1 of 45-70, what could be better?

Buds gets 5 stars for service. This rifle gets 3 stars. The front and rear iron sights are terrible, will be immediately replaced. The finish work on the laminate fore end is poor, especially the front and rear edges. Maybe I can get a gunsmith to sand and refinish that fore end. Otherwise, the finish and function is good.

Marlin and Buds do it again! It's a great handy rifle. Built for a specific purpose. Lots of power in a smaller package. Action is smooth, finish is what you expect. Could use a bit better sights but the ones that are installed are good. Drilled and taped for scope mount of that's what you like. The rifle shipped on time and everything arrived as it should. No complaints through the whole process.

It is obvious that the quality control has improved since the Remington transition period. I plan on smoothing the edges around the area when the Cartagena are loaded in. It tends to shave your brass a bit. Other than that, it's a great little workhorse. You can't beat it in this price range.

The gun is awesome. It looks like Remington and Marlin are starting to get their act together. Fit and finish were flawless. Buds Guns was phenomenal, prompt service speedy delivery.
