Definitely a tough gun! Not too much kick, tough laminate stock, plenty of after market accessories. I looked into other 45-70 Leverguns (Henry, Cimarron) but ended up pulling the trigger (pun intended) on the Marlin 1895 GBL due to the Big loop, 18.5" barrel, and the laminate wood stock. One good looking gun that functions well and is tough enough to take on any hunt.

This beautiful Marlin 1895GBL in 45-70 was not my first purchase from Bud's Gun Shop. Nor will it be my last. This was definitely the strangest purchase to date. I'll explain. Like a little kid counting down to Christmas I stalk Bud's web page to track the travel of my new rifle. When the delivery date arrived it wasn't delivered. It showed that it was still at the FedEx hub just south of Dallas. I'm a fairly patient fella so I waited a couple of days and still no rifle. I call FedEx to find out what was going on. I told the lady, "We are only about 3 hours west of you. Unless you're using mule trains again it should have been here three days ago." They admitted they had no idea where it was at. They put a tracer on it. I contacted Bud's and gave them the info. Everyone waited. Finally they admitted they had lost the rifle. Bud's stated once they had gotten the paperwork they would immediately send another rifle. This is exactly what they did. So I began tracking the next rifle. The day it was to arrive I got a call from the FFL and I said, "My rifle is in???" They said, "Yes both of them." Called Bud's again and let them know both rifles had shown up at my FFL. Throughout this whole ordeal Bud's was so easy to work with. The customer service folks I worked with were very nice. As for the rifle I haven't had time to shoot it yet but I have played with it. It is flawless. Fit, finish etc are great. The action is smooth and will get buttery smooth with use. The trigger breaks nicely with a little creep. There is the floppy Marlin trigger thing but there is a fix for that. I'm currently stalking my latest purchase :D Thanks Buds!

It\'s a beautiful weapon and good customer service. My only complaint is that the trigger pull was very bad. I had to completely rework it. Although when I discover a flaw in the stock and called customer service they were very cooperative and just sent me a replacement on the spot. I\'m sure they would have dealt with the trigger in the same manner if I had sent the weapon back.

I wanted a field gun with a more potent round than my Marlin 336 in 30-30, so I opted for this. I'm very happy with the choice. The working parts and accuracy are definitely up-to-the-task in that I'm getting 2 MOA with iron sights. The weight and "maneuverability" are perfect for my purpose - an in-the-brush and saddle gun with the power to take down the largest animal with authority. Initially, I was a little disappointed with the stock as it can't possibly compare with my 336's walnut look and feel. But then, it has an advantage over the walnut in that it's essentially waterproof synthetic. As a field gun, I'll take that every day of the week. In reading the reviews, I see people complaining about lack of quality and parts falling off but I've seen none of that. Maybe Marlin fixed their process, or maybe those errors were flukes, but this is a well-made and accurate gun for a decent price. I'd buy it again. Oh, and if you haven't ever fired a 45-70 from a (relatively) short barreled gun, you're in for a surprise - it's got quite the flash and kick. I've had more than one person on the range ask me, "What the heck are you shooting?!"
