It's a Ruger, how can you go wrong. American quality and functionality. Solid. This was my dream piece for a long time, since I was a kid. Finally have it in the .44 special I'd wanted it in. Firearm is beautiful, functions like a fine tuned machine. Havent fired it yet, but I already know from past experience it will do as its intended to do. Came packaged in a molded plastic Ruger case with spent case, full size Ruger branded steel lock, and all the manuals and the usual literature. Wasnt too impressed with the packaing case, its not even a decent lockable case. The checkerd plastic grips leave something to be desired as they feel like hollow plastic; easy enough to change and will want to personalize this piece anyway. Very nice trigger on this one, better than ones I've experienced in past- smooth, crisp, and no creep at all on this one, very clean break, probably around 4 1/2 lbs. Smaller squared grip panels on this piece, I thought I was really going to like as I've got average hands, and to be honest, I think I'd like a thicker grip panel on this now. All being said, I still love the piece. This is the special one. I design and fabricate custome firearms leather (ChristensenLeather) so this will definitely get a finer piece. Buds was excellent once again, have never had an issue after several purchases. Really quick ship to preferred FFL transfer dealer in my home town. Very pleased with the experience.

I purchased this revolver in 4/2015. The serial number begins 512- which is the serial number series associated with the New Vaqueros. It has the smaller, all-steel grip frame unlike other blued New Model Blackhawks that have a larger, aluminum grip frame. If you need to replace the grips (mine came with the black plastic checkered grips), use grips made for the New Vaquero. Mine also did not have the internal lock on the mainspring. The envelope containing the fired case indicated that my revolver was made before 4/2014. The cylinder also indexes properly on the ejection port like the New Vaqueros and unlike New Model Blackhawks. I haven't shot it yet, so I can't comment on accuracy or reliability, but it is a beautiful gun.

Rock solid Ruger performance. Built great, shoots great, love the slimmer feel of the newer Blackhawk. Cannot recommend enough, and as always, Bud's is awesome!

Great value and love the feel of the older style small frame in 44 special. I already want another one.

This is a great shooting and good looking 44 Special revolver. It is in the style of the Flattop Blackhawk in that it doesn't have the protective ears on the side of the rear sight. This gives it a cleaner smoother look. The overall size is that of the old model Blackhawk, smaller than the current new model Blackhawk. This is just the ticket if one is looking for a slightly small revolver than the Super Blackhawk and since one will be shooting 44 Specials, the smaller size should be fine for most people.
