I own a number of handguns, but finally decided to buy a shotgun in order to have the ultimate home defense weapon. I was torn between the Mossberg 590A1 and the Remington 870 tactical. The Mossberg is priced a little better and the Remington was out of stock, so I went with the 590A1. I was happy with it as soon as I opened the box. This is a nice looking gun. No, it's not a museum piece, but it is a sharp looking gun with great lines. It's the perfect size for carrying comfortably, nice weight, easy to handle. It appears to be well made, with good solid construction. I love shooting my handguns at the range, but this is the gun I will go for when my family's lives depend on it. I would not want to be staring down the business end of this bad boy as an intruder! Thanks to Bud's for making this purchase incredibly easy. Paid on 1/2, picked it up from my FFL 1/7.

I carried one of these Mossberg Model 51517 for several years as a police officer. If you want a shotgun that you can trust your life to, it is this model from Mossberg. The shotgun has it all heavy barrel, 5 round mag, ghost ring sights and military style park finish. Good price and super fast service from Buds, I will be a returning customer.

This is an excellent shotgun with good fit and finish. There is a slight wobble in the forend (pump) grip and the parkerized finish is not quite flawless, but it looks very good and operates flawlessly. As soon as you hold it in your hands, you know it is well built and will outlast you. Shells chamber easily, the top mounted ambidextrous safety and pump release lever are easy to access, and the ghost ring sights are wonderful. I'm very glad I chose the 18.5" barrel. It's got some heft, but is very manageable and maneuverable. 6 shots (5 + 1) is plenty, but if you want more, you can add a magazine tube extension and squeeze in another round or two. I'm convinced the 20" barrel 8-shot version would've been a bit unwieldy (certainly front heavy) and too much for my wife to manage at all. The synthetic stock was a bit long for me (I'm 6'0" 190 lbs. with reasonably long arms, but the 14.5" LOP was a bit too much) so I ran it through the table saw and cut off an inch which made a huge difference. I masked it with tape and used a 60 tpi fine cut sawblade which sliced through so cleanly you can't tell it was cut off (except the rubber pad now is slightly larger than the synthetic butt where the two meet, but it looks fine). I also had to drill the two pad fastener holes a tad deeper with 1/8" drill bit. Simple stuff. 15 minutes of easy labor and I have an excellent home defense shotgun and range toy custom fit to my frame. Cleaned and lubed it, racked the pump about a hundred times at home, then went to the range and shot 50 shells (2 3/4" Federal Game Shok #6). The pump action is a little stiff to start, but smoothing out nicely after that little break in. Should be nice and smooth after another 150 shells or so. The instructions for disassembly and reassembly leave a lot to be desired (very abstract and not wonderfully illustrated) but there are a few good YouTube overviews that can help you out if you get stuck. As usual, Bud's was a delight to purchase from, and a very fast processing for so near the holidays (only 6 days from purchase to holding it in my hands). I highly recommend this shotgun for home defense and/or range play. And I recommend buying from Bud's!

Ordered on 9/26 - picked up on 10/5. What is there to say? Almost Perfection.... and what I mean by that is, Fit is perfect, finish is terrible... but, I wasn't expecting safe queen quality. There were runs in the finish all down the barrel from the front sight to the chamber. It looked like it was sprayed with a rattle can. It does what it should though, and that's whats important. Eats everything you can think of. One hell of a gun.

Got this 590A1 LE Friday and put about 300 rounds through it over the weekend, this shotgun is great. It ate everything I fed it (slugs, 00, bird shot) without a single problem. I was shooting from the 10 to 25 yard range and it was right on target, the sights work great. It is well balanced and well built. If you are thinking of buying one of these you will not be disappointed, its well worth the investment. Thank you Buds for a great deal on an excellent shotgun, I will be buying from you again.
