My first DW fullsize 1911 was a 9mm Valor. Knowing i wanted a .45 I decided to go for the Specialist and that turned out to be an excellent decision. Fit, Finish and performance has been outstanding with no issues of any kind so far. Still in the break in period and would be surprised if anything untoward will occur. However, one significant issue has arisen with the four Dan Wesson 1911's I have and that is deciding which one I like the most.

This handgun is by far the most glass 1911 you'll ever fire. The weight is surprising light, but still has minimal kick for 45acp. The grips are amazing and reassure you that you the gun won't slip. The gun is hand fitted which makes takedown and cleaning the first few times a chore, but after a few hundred rounds it becomes a little more forgiving. Definitely worth the extra coin for a very reliable gun.

The Dan Wesson Specialist is possibly the best value 1911 on the market. Right out of the box you can expect to shoot a 2-3 inch group at 7-10yds and the gun is absolutely glorious. It may take you awhile to adjust to the straight 8 sights but once you do you will love them. I got the stainless version and it is beauitiful. The only writing on the pistol is Specialist which I like compared to possibly the second best value 1911 on the market, the Springfield TRP which has writing all over it. Dan Wesson does it right and this gun is tightly put together (not as tight as a les baer but you get that custom feel). As always I received great customer service from buds, I ordered the gun online for in store pick up and the pistol was there waiting on me just 2 days after ordering. If your looking for a high quality 1911 with a rail this is the pistol for you.

This is my fifth Dan Wesson. As a long time 1911 collector and shooter I feel that these pistols are worth every penny and then some. They shoot, fit and look as good as Les Baer's and Wilson's I have had and are actually sometimes better in all aspects. This pistol is at the top of the class. The fit is tight but not unreasonably, the finish is imaculate and performance is as good as it gets. Dan Wessons are hand fit and have no mim parts. There are only two minor complaints on this pistol for me, very minor. The sights are very good but I prefer three dot sights over straight eights, I think for me I am more accurate with 3 dots, or at least more familiar, though I was shooting two inch groups on ocassion at 20 yards and keeping everything in the black on a 6" target. And I am a slightly shakey, trifocaled 66 year old guy. The only other thing is the grips. I think most people will find they need gloves with these grips, they are very nice but super aggressive. They really bite into your hand for a secure grip but after a box or two of ammo they can become a little irritating. I will keep the sights but have ordered a slightly less aggresssive set of VZ grips. If you have never tried a Dan Wesson you should, even people that don't usually shoot 1911's that try any of mine love the feel and accuracy. In my opinion Dan Wessons are superior 1911's in almost every way and should not disappoint anyone willing to spend the cash on one. Just my opinion. I have bought over 100 guns from Bud's with good luck.
