update... I have shot over 2000 rounds through mine now with only one stovepipe and that was due to my friend limp wristing it. gun is very reliable. i have become used to the trigger pull and now i shoot 2 inch groups at 25 yards with this pistol. by far my favorite handgun right now.

puchased this gun from buds gun shop. cleaned it and went to the range right when i purchased it. put 200 rounds through it no problem. very manageable recoil. feels great to shoot. trigger pull is harsh but definately worth the money

My girlfriend has the 9mm version and i went to the range with her and i was sold, but of course i had to get the 40 s&w. At first i couldn't even hit the paper at 10 yards but once I got used to the trigger i was set now i'm putting them all in the first two rings at 15 yards. a great gun at a great price and you cant beat the disassemble/reassemble makes it easy to clean. thanks to buds i got the best price and i'll definitely make the drive down from cincinnati when my wish list items come in.

An update... after almost 1000 rounds, had 4 FTFs. In regards to the review stating that trigger pull is fine and they don't see what the problem is... they either got an oddball w/ a good trigger, they're very strong or S&W fixed the trigger. The pull had been estimated out of the box to be between 8 to 12 lbs. Again, though, a simple spring change does wonders.

Just got this gun in and took it to the range. I am having a hard time understanding what people are stating about the trigger, Either I have stong fingers or eveyone else has weak fingers. I give this Gun (A+++) 1. Green color looks great 2. 40 S&W nice caliber 3. Magazine (2) 14 rounds each 4. Nice carry case 5. It's a SMITH & WESSON !!! 5. Price I bought it for $316.00, It is now $338.00 still worth it every penny

I bought this pistol even after reading all the reviews about the downright nasty trigger pull. So I knew what I was getting myself into. The gun shoots great, but I can see absolutely no reason to have a trigger that heavy. Some have cited safety as the reason for the design, but the pull is truely ridiculous, even at that. I managed to find a lighter striker spring from a very well known catalog and on-line gun parts retailer for about $7. It is a piece of cake to swap out. The trigger still seems a bit on the heavy side, but is more than acceptable. Before the spring replacement, my forearm would be sore from the workout the trigger gave me after a few clips of ammo. Factoring in price, this is truely a 5 star gun if it weren't for the trigger. Unfortunately, S & W has a potential winner on its hands, but without that slight trigger refinement, it will probably relagated to only having a cult following of die hard fans who choose to turn a blind eye to it (and those who choose to sink just a few more bucks in for a spring ). If you can take apart and put back together a pistol, or are mechanically inclined in the slightest bit, I would recommend this pistol. Just buy the replacement spring, too. It takes more time to check your mail, open up the envelope to take out the spring and get you pistol out of the safe than it does to change the spring. I am now considering the 9mm, as well. Or at least I was. It appears as though our last election has caused prices to jump $40 in just the few weeks I've had it. Still a bargain compared to a Glock (not that I don't want one of those, too).

I purchased this one for my wife. For her the mag release is a bit of a stretch and the slide is pretty stout to cycle, but she can put five shots in four inches as 15yds with it, three of those five in a one inch triangle. Takedown is easy and with a hundred rounds through it we've had no stoppages. Great value.

This is my second S&W 40 GVE. FOR THE PRICE YOUR GETTING A GREAT QUALITY HOME DEFENSE WEAPON..

This is my second S&W 40 GVE. The first I gave to my wife for home defense. First, this is not a pistol you will win any sport shooting events with. It is first and foremost a defensive/combat weapon and if you know how to shot you WILL hit whatever you are aiming at. Glock owners will disagree with me and give it a bad review because they consider it a cheap knock-off. The GVE is reliable even though the heavy trigger takes getting used to but any competant gunsmith can lighten that up for next to nothing. My trigger went from almost 12 lbs to 4 lbs. I have fired over 5,000 rounds through my pistol and have absolutely zero problems. I have even ran it through Glock tests, Purposely not cleaning it...Dropping it from various heights...Plunging it in buckets of mud and yet it continues to fire each and every time. I even ran over it with the back tires of my truck, loaded it and fired it. I can do this because it is a very affordable weapon. No problems. It's not a "pretty" pistol like the more expensive Sigs and Berettas but you don't need pretty to sling lead down a range or at a homicidal home invader. It is easy to conceal and easy to draw fast because there's nothing to snag on clothing. Yes the similarities to Glock are more than noticible but you don't see anybody bitching between Coke and Pepsi. I trust this weapon not only with my life but that of my wifes as well so naturally I would recomend this for anyone else as well.

Have fired about 3000 rounds since getting without a single problem. Very comfortable to shoot and very accurate. The more I shoot, the better it feels. Shot with a buddy who swore by his Glock and bad mouth the S&W as a cheap knock off. Well his Glock jamed 3 times in 100 rounds. The S&W however wouldn't quit.
