Excellent purchase. No, it's not a Stacatto, but I do like it more than my previous Prodigy. The weight is a bit jarring at first, but it helps to soak up recoil. I haven't had any reliability issues which is the exact opposite of my Prodigy experience. To be fair, the Prodigy did come with a slightly lower trigger pull weight and does have a bull barrel, but even with those advantages, the Tac Ultra is a better buy in my opinion.

For the money this is a great entry into the 2011 realm. If I had it to do over again I might move up to the Springfield Prodigy as the Rock Island had a few small issues I had to work thru such as, they sent the wrong magazines with the gun. They sent the ones that are for the.22 model which meant I had to machine down the leading edge of the magazine to get it to seat all the way and hold the slide open on the final round. Not necessarily the gun that was the issue but the attention to detail leaves ya wondering. The gun shoots straight as a laser and the recoil is exactly what you'd expect from a big heavy 2011 which is to say almost nil. Overall, pleased but they (Rock Island) has room for improvement.

Rock island makes a good product for a fair price. Fit and function was as expected, no major concerns. Dealing with Buds is always top notch.

I just received this handgun and my initial reaction was, this is a heavy gun Barring the weight, it is a solid gun. I’ve owned several other Hi Cap 1911 style handgun but this one is definitely the heaviest I’ve owned. It came in soaked in oil but that didn’t faze me one bit. Just get a rag and wipe it down. I haven’t had a chance to fire it yet but by the looks and weight of it, I think it’ll be one that stays with me for a long haul. For the money, this RIA has true value. I would not recommend it for an EDC, only because of the weight issue. As for using it in competition mode, I think it will hold its own. BTW, shipping to my part of the world was FAST. Bud’s is a definite place to get your firearms. Thanks for the fast service Bud’s. Hmmmmm…..what do I want to get next???

Buds has super fast shipment so that's a plus. the pistol out it's case was enclosed in a clear plastic bag drowning in oil. Took some time to get it cleaned up. Feels heavy/big grip/shoots flat. Mags are somewhat hard to come by. Other than that, happy with the purchase. Well worth it.

I love the pistol, I haven’t had a hiccup with it yet. I’ve found that the Mec gar p18 magazines along with the Dawson precision para magazine bases work perfectly. My only wish would be that they made this a bull barrel instead of a government style bushing barrel, but, for what it is, it’s a great gun.

Worst buds guns experience I've ever had!!! The new management is very incompetent. Stay away.

The shipping was horrible but as far as the firearm couldn’t beat the deal left it with my gunsmith to be cleaned and tuned up can’t wait to shoot her in the up coming weeks

Gun came with the wrong mag, but Rock Island shipped me a new mag a week after I submitted my request. Mainspring housing was a hair too big beacause the mag well on the bottom is designed to put pressure on it to maintain stability. This caused mainspring housing to put pressure on safety and forced it to stay depressed. Rock Island offered to repair but said it would take a minimum of 4-6 weeks. I just ran a metal file over top of mainspring housing and shaved off the smallest amount of metal and it works great now. Quality control isn’t the best but it is a might fine range pistol. Shoots amazing and the recoil is very flat. Have not had any issues out of first couple hundred rounds. I do warn that this is a gun for big hands. Keep on searching for the right gun if you have small or even medium sized hands. It’s a hog.

Received the product without the proper magazine. They shipped it with a single stack 45acp magazine instead of the double stack 9mm magazine that is supposed to come with the pistol. After trying to have a conversation with a representative they stop responding and made no further effort into resolving my issue.

Finally after along 2 years waiting for this beauty! I haven’t shot her yet, just been taking her out just to look at her. Hopefully soon I’ll make it to the range to ring some steel then off to Haynes customs for a make over!

While it may sound cliche...this really is a great bang for the buck. We've all seen those $1500, $2000, $3000, and up 1911 platforms. What do they have that the Rock Island TAC Ultra FSHC doesn't have? Not a whole lot. I own one of those $2000 boutique 1911's. It doesn't perform any better than the Rock Island. Yes, it's prettier. Yes, it's made with higher quality bits and pieces. But both of them go bang when you pull the excellent triggers. My RIA had a great trigger out of the box, but it is currently at Hayes Custom Guns awaiting their "Race Ready" package. When it returns, it will be one beast of a 1911 ready to tackle IDPA shooting challenges provided it makes weight (she's a big girl!).

Rock Island makes some nice 1911's for the price. Love this double stack. I have heard the criticism of mim parts before but I am less concerned about this pistol because the 9mm is less violent than the 10mm. This is a nice shooter and would be a good competition pistol.

First off, the gun is an oily beast. You will have to spend an hour or more cleaning it up, and you'll probably want to go ahead and replace the front fiber optic pipe. The installed pipe is either poor quality or has stained because of all the oil. I think RIA just dips the gun in a bucket of oil before shipping.
With a light on it, it will fit standard holsters for 1911's with lights mounted. Without the light on it you will have to get a holster that is made for full railed 1911's. The grip is large, but not too much. If you can handle a typical double stack handgun comfortably then this gun won't be a problem. The biggest issue for this gun is just the weight. You will need a thick leather belt to support the weight of the gun.
The fit of the gun is first class and the gun does not rattle if you shake it (like a Colt does). If they stamped the slide Sig or Colt many people would be willing to pay twice as much for the gun. The finish is evenly applied and looks good. Everything on the gun is metal except for the fiber optic pipe. The gun comes with a 17 round magazine but it holds 18 and works perfectly with 18 in it. The Remington magazines fit and hold 19 rounds.
It is easy to shoot the gun fast as there is hardly any muzzle rise. A three pound all steel gun just soaks up the recoil. The trigger pull is not at a custom 1911 level, but it is crisp with a clean break. I don't own a trigger gauge, but I would guess in the 5-6 pound pull range with a short reset.
If you want a gun that is fun to shoot, accurate, and has low recoil then this may be the gun for you. I would not recommend this gun as a daily carry gun. Yes you could do it, but IMO it's just too heavy for that. Home defense, competition, plinking, or range gun is where this gun belongs.

Buds service was impeccable, as usual. Ths RIA TAC Ultra FSHC Single 9mm lives up to all the positive internet hype - and without the "for a pistol in this price range" qualifier. It may not have some of the refinements of more (exceptionally) expensive guns but it does everything it is supposed to do and does it like a champ. It's accurate, the slide moves with a buttery glide, slide to frame fit is as good as my semi-custom 9s and .45s; it ate all the ammo I fed it without a bobble - including the hollow point loads. No FTEs or FTFs. This is a big, heavy pistol so some may question the viability of EDC. That's up to the individual and their circumstances but, if reliability, accuracy, very low recoil, firepower and price point are at the top of your list of qualifiers, then the RIA TAC Ultra FSHC Single 9mm should be added to your purchase queue.

GREAT value for the money and really great shooting gun; flat, smooth...I felt like a champ the first time I shot it because it was so spot on.
I got the 9mm for compatibility of some nice future upgrades (STI). I also upgraded the mag release and slide release with Wilson Combat extended ones but just because I have smaller hands, this might not be something everyone needs to do. Honestly I love everything about this gun except only 1 thing-the fiber optic pin on the front sight is REALLY dull and will need to be replaced (I got the TRUGLO 5 pack and love it).
Something worth noting - yes, this gun is VERY heavy, but that's also what helps it shoot so flat.
I'm a very tough sell and have to see the proof first, but I can tell you this is an AWESOME gun for the money and will be keeping this one forever.

This gun is a good excuse to have 2011 and keep extra money in the wallet. I'm a huge fan of STI and Wilson Combat... but who wants to spend $2k or more just like that? Yes.. maybe in the future....
Anyway, this RIA TAC Ultra FSHC in 9mm is a great pistol for a great price. Shoots without any issues after good preparing... not just out of the box. It comes in plastic bag full of machine oil and it cannot be shot without cleaning.
I kept it 30 minutes in 90% isopropyl alcohol, dried, made classic lubrication.... and after that it shot like a charm :-)
It's great shooter; heavy (like it should be - full steel) with perfect accuracy and low recoil. Nice grip panels. Front sight fiber rod has to be replaced (not glowing - probably because of the machine oil).
It couldn't be compared to STI... but after some gunsmith work (trigger job, thumb safety polishing, undercut trigger guard, slide stop corrections) it became as good as STACCATO P :-) and still close to $1k.
I definitely recommend this gun for everyone who loves 2011 (or I should say - 1911 in double stack) and doesn't want to kill the budged.
Not recommended for polymer lovers...

Shooter, right out of the box. Heavy, accurate, and fun to shoot. looks and operates like a much more expensive semi. Nice job Rock Island.

Love the gun. It is a great entry level 2011. This particular gun had 9 failure to extract in the first 150 rounds. I am not surprised or bothered by this as when doing my due diligence before purchasing, this was a common issue. I will replace with high end extractor and be golden. I would purchase this gun again in a heartbeat the fit and finish is impeccable and slide to frame fit is the tightest of any 1911 I have owned. It shoots like a dream. My only complaint is the gun only comes with a single magazine which is lame.
