Great 1911 for the money. I also gave a Springfield 1911 Loaded Stainless and the build quality on both is pretty close. It's a basic, no frills, old school 1911 and it just works as it should, every time.

Fairly significant slop on slide to frame fitting in addition to some play with barrel when locked.
This slop also showed up on the range. 1) accuracy wasn’t very impressive 2) reliable feeder, though
Sights were not great.
I wanted to like the gun, but simply couldn’t overcome the shortcomings.
I will say this, however, the blueing on it was stellar. That much was perfect.

It's a Colt. That says it all.

--Very pleased! shoots great with a variety of ammo. carries great IWB. Purchased this Colt Commander about 2 years ago from Buds and it is a favorite. I particularly like the trigger. For readers unfamiliar with this niche of the 1911 world - this is a full weight steel Commander (4 1/4" Barrel) as apposed to a full size Government (3/4" Longer) or Lightweight Commander that features the aluminum frame. --This all steel version of the Commander is more shootable than the Lightweight version and absorbs more of the recoil of the 45 ACP cartridge. It is heavier for carry so you have to like that aspect and have a good carry rig. --This pistol has a nice vintage element, reflecting the models issued in WWI and WWII. This is why I ordered this model, it is an honor to own and use.

I can't say enough good things about bud's, especially like their layaway plan. As far as the pistol the fit and finish is by far the best I have saw in a 1911. this is the fourth 1911 in my collection and will probably become my favorite.

It's a Colt, what more really needs to be said? I've been dry firing it for a few weeks to get the trigger a little smoother and to work on my trigger control. I was going to have a trigger job performed, but the local smith said it was already at 4 lbs. Very solid feel and top notch workmanship. I took it to the range today for it's first firing. Shot 200 rounds of hardball at various targets. No problems of any kind, The new Colts are ultra reliable and this all steel Commander is no exception. This is an investment, not just a implement.

This is my first 1911. There is nothing like a Colt in your hand. 105 years later and it's still the best feeling handgun! If you're like me in CA, this is the last Colt on the DOJ, get one while you can! I immediately took it to the range after a quick lube and I gotta agree with others in the community, this thing shoots better than I do! It's much more predictable as far as accuracy is concerned than my Beretta M9, which is a great gun too. Bud's service is great, thorough and fast! They are great on the phones, too. I couldn't be happier. You can get other, better 1911's for double or triple the price, but if you want a stripped down, simple, no frills shooter this is your gun.

Excellent Colt. My first 1911 Colt in many years. Impressed with fit and finish! Fired it for the first time today, 130 rounds with NO problems at all. No problems with BUDS either, everything went very smooth! Will be buying some more Colt 1911's, already have another one on Law-a-Way with BUDS.

I have four other 1911 models, but this is my first Colt and I love it! I'd put 50 rounds of aluminum cased Blazer fmj without a flaw at it's first range day. It cycled perfectly using the supplied magazines as well as some 8 & 10 round Chip McCormick's. The Commander model weighs only few ounces more than my aluminum framed Kimber Ultra Carry II. This model would also be compact enough to be nice for CCW purposes and would be my CCW choice if I didn't have that Kimber. The Rosewood diamond patterned grips are a beautiful matched set on my Commander. The blue finish is also perfect. I'd used Bud's 90 layaway and the "make an offer" choice to lock this in at a very decent price! Once all the e-checks cleared, Bud's got this to my FFL in about five UPS days.

Another great transaction! Went smoothly and with out issue. This was my 3rd 1911 and my 1st Colt. Put 100 rounds using Win 230 gr with a flaw. I've already ordered my 2nd Colt.

Great gun! I just returned from the range and, what an accurate handgun this is. No FTF or FTE, just one large ragged hole. Bud's service was fast and the free buySafe was an added bonus. The buySafe guarantee covered a price drop on the pistol. I'd recommend this Colt and Buds to anyone.

Great transaction. Bud's delivered as promised. as usual, Fast and well packaged shipping. You simply can't go wrong with a Colt! I put on a new match trigger, grips and steel mainspring housing to suit my taste and needs. She's a beauty. Got delivered just in time for Christmas!

Colt makes a fine firearm. Grips are a little rough on the hands and a competition type trigger would be nice.

I hesitated when I bought this handgun because I had never purchased a firearm on-line and was not sure what to expect. Everything went just as Bud's video explained. The Commander I received is very well built and right away I could tell the difference in the quality of the Colt when comparing it to my other 1911's. The gun came in perfect condition without a scuff or scratch. I put 100 rounds through it the very first weekend and it performed flawlessly. I had always heard people say that you can't understand Colt quality until you own one, now I understand. I understand so much that my 2nd Commander (Stainless) from Buds is now at my local FFL. Also the prices couldn't be matched by any local shop within 250 miles. Thanks Buds for making my buying experiences so easy. This is my new way to buy firearms.

Great gun! First transaction with Bud's was great as well! Will do business here again. Thanks!

I am very happy with my new Colt. The transaction with buds was very fast and easy as usual. The picture Buds has on file does not do this pistol justice. It has a very nice blued finish (darker than the picture). The slide feels like it is on glass and the trigger is extremely smooth. If they have this pistol in stock, buy it they wont last long!

I took delivery of this blued Commander on 11/18/09. It has no issues and everything is perfect with it. As soon as I got it home I did a good cleaning on it and took it out to run 100 rounds through it. The Colt Commander ran great with a good group of 2" at 20 yds or so. Dealing with Bud`s and Gurney was great, no problems and super fast shipping. Could`nt be happier with gun and service.

I took delivery of this blued Commander on 11/18/09. It has matte rounds with polished flats, although not the deep, polished bluing I have seen on higher priced Colts. It is still nice for a 1991 series. The parts are nicely fitted and the bluing is even and deep. I am disppointed in the grips as the right panel has the cut for an ambi safety but there is no ambi safety and the cut is obvious as you pick it up and hold it. The trigger is about 5.5lbs. and a little gritty but this is the norm for a new gun and will work out. The 3-dot sights are definitely usable and I'm sure I'll keep them. The ejection port is lowered but not flared but it makes no difference in function on my gun. The cases are fine for reloading with little scarring. I performed a thorough cleaning and lube before going to the range. At the range, using the supplied Colt mags, it ran GREAT ! No hiccups what so ever through 150 rounds. I think the new, enhanced throating Colt does to the barrels helps. There was no indication of "smileys" on the spent brass. Mine is very accurate at combat distance out to 25 yards. Recoil is very manageable with this 1911. Aside from the grip panel I would give the gun a "5" for being the great value it is. For Colts goof on the grip panel, that knocks it down to a solid "4". If you are thinking of getting one, I say it is money well spent. It's a really good gun and is now part of my carry rotation !

Hello, I first bought a 1991A1 Commander back in 1991 and it was a far cry from the newer version. The old version had a matte bead blue finish and plastic trigger/MSH. When I ordered the newer Series 80 1991 Colt Commander, I was really taken back by the meticulous Colt Blue Polish and fitting of this "updated" version of the older 1991A1 Colt Commander. Taken to the range, the newer Commander shot as good as it looked and I was reminded just how good this handgun was! The flat MSH and long trigger fits my hand to a "T" and it shoots nice tight groups. I imagine that with continued shooting it will only get better and better!
